I am old enough to remember the sad story told by one of the newspaper sob sisters of yesteryear. It seems that a sparrow flew into the cell of a felon. The sob sister's story was about the extreme care and affection paid to the bird by the convicted felon.

That felon was Bruno Richard Hauptman, of Lindburgh infamy.

They executed him anyway.
