I dont disagree with the NYT's decision to run the story.. we do have freedom of the press ...the problem i have is with the idiot who leaked this information to NYT and should be investigated throughly.

"we do have freedom of the press"

This is a right that is balanced by its grave responsibilities.

And there is the problem. If we had a plan to capture Osama or Zarqawi on Saturday, you would not have a problem with the TIMES writing the story. That is just incredible. Remind me never to trust you with something important.

"Don't blame ME for reporting on this secret program in our fight against Islamofascism! Someone HANDED it to me, I HAD to report it!"--NYT

Then I guess you're angry that the NYT didn't report this story when they first learned of it a year ago?

Doesn't a newspaper have a responsibility to not become an active component in the battle between the US and Islamofascism on the latter's side? Is this academic, impartial above-it-all-whatever-the-consequences position newsmen take realistic in this war?

Newspaper folks are a laughable bunch--they claim obedience to a higher authority--journalistic freedom--and yet have the largest egos on the planet. Yet they claim to not have a choice in any of this, that they're just doing their journalistic duty.

So why do they always seem to be coming down on one side of this current debate about the war, and never seem to publish material helpful to the Bush Administration?

A little thinking about that might cure of this "They have the right to report anything" phase you're going through.

The Justice Department delivered a letter to the Senate today basically demonstrating, as a legal matter, that the NY Times coverage was totally misleading.

Will the Times cover that and correct its mistaken reporting?

No.

And that's why freedom of the press is being abused in this country.
