"Main Street retailers collect sales taxes, while many online and catalog retailers are exempt from collecting the same taxes," said a statement published by Sen. Mike Enzi, a Wyoming Republican. "This is costing states and localities billions in lost revenue." (A related bill has been introduced by Sen. Byron Dorgan, a North Dakota Democrat, who is a former state tax commissioner.)

Screw you, Enzi...AND Dorgan. Nothing is stopping brick and mortars from going online and selling to others. THE GREEDY HAND OF GOVERNMENT MUST BE STOPPED!

Here in Wyoming we have a 2 billion dollar surplus in state gov. of about 450 Thousand people. Go figure.
They should eliminate sales tax on food and utilities.

Not quite true. But it's not the government that is hindering the businesses with real storefronts. Many manufacturers who sell through "authorized dealers" require that these dealers sign a contract that includes a clause forbidding the online sale of their products. If you are caught selling online, they stop selling you the product. The dealers with real storefronts are hurt because the manufacturers have contracts with a limited number of online retailers, allowing them to sell online.

And the brick and mortar retailers have higher overhead, are frequently required by their contract to provide (mostly unreimbursed) warranty service for the products made by manufacturers for whom they are authorized dealers (even products purchased online) and, on top of this, they are forced to perform the slave labor of collecting and delivering tax revenues to local taxing bodies.

Not that I want an online tax.....I just think that business owners are "taxed" enough by governments, regardless of whether they are online or on Main Street.

Yeah... good luck with that. Not that it isn't a worthy goal, but in case you haven't noticed... things are trending the OTHER way.
