Kinda reminds me of the Korean sweat sock vendors at the swap meets...they always make an attempt to charge sales tax too - I'm certain those proceeds all get reported...

Sorry.I forgot high school was on Christmas Break.
"This robs my schools and fir protection and forces politicans to increase property taxes."
Close the schools!
>We have Republicans eager to increase taxes<
Is the the IRS increasing taxes when they make a case on someone that has not been paying their income taxes when you have?
But everyone thought it such a great idea to do this to smokers buying cigarettes over the internet.......but now that it is their ox being gored people are all upset.
As my 7 year old would say when she doesn't get her way - WAAAAAAAAA
>Close the schools!<
What about the Fire Department and the police? Should we turn off all the traffic lights?
Yep.
What a bunch of bull! Online retailers still pay income taxes, and the sales taxes that are not being paid the consumer is paying for in shipping!
Wrong. Worth way more than two cents.
Although not universally true (see Ron Paul for an obvious exception), my rule of thumb is that anyone who wants to control others through government, no matter how the lipstick is placed on the pig with "help society, public service" etc., has a psychological pathology that makes him unfit to hold office.
>What a bunch of bull! Online retailers still pay income taxes, and the sales taxes that are not being paid the consumer is paying for in shipping<
Shipping is paid for at all levals it just happens to be included in the price when you buy at a store.
Yup, the internet isn't really any cheaper. You don't have to pay sales tax, but you do have to pay shipping & Handling. If I had to pay tax too, I wouldn't shop internet as much because I would prefer to be able to have the item immediately. I don't think this will go anywhere though. It's been tried before. I think these two Sinators need to be retired for even proposing it.
Bastards. If the Republicans are taxing us just as much as the Democrats then why bother?
We SO need a REAL conservative party!!!!
Oh come on. These Rats never met a tax they didn't like.
"Nothing is stopping brick and mortars from going online and selling to others."
Not quite true. But it's not the government that is hindering the businesses with real storefronts. Many manufacturers who sell through "authorized dealers" require that these dealers sign a contract that includes a clause forbidding the online sale of their products. If you are caught selling online, they stop selling you the product. The dealers with real storefronts are hurt because the manufacturers have contracts with a limited number of online retailers, allowing them to sell online.
And the brick and mortar retailers have higher overhead, are frequently required by their contract to provide (mostly unreimbursed) warranty service for the products made by manufacturers for whom they are authorized dealers (even products purchased online) and, on top of this, they are forced to perform the slave labor of collecting and delivering tax revenues to local taxing bodies.
Not that I want an online tax.....I just think that business owners are "taxed" enough by governments, regardless of whether they are online or on Main Street.
Blessed: What internet retailer delivers its own products? If they maintain a store and delivery trucks in your state than they are already charged sales tax. When you bought your "I Love Big Government Book" from Amazon did Jeff Bezos drive down from Seattle and deliver it to you? Fire protection?? Can I call 911 in your state to track a Fedex package now? The reason that internet and mail order companies are not taxed is because they have no presence in your state. Shipping a package into your state via FedEx or UPS does not mean the retailer is using your precious roads it means UPS and FedEx are, and you can be sure that you State government is getting their pound of flesh from them. Court cost are paid for by the losing party.
Senate to Havok, "We'll take that 2 cents."
