The late Ron Brown was not particularly paranoid. In fact, for most of his career, he conducted his business dealings cavalierly, smug in the knowledge that as a splendidly well-connected, black Democrat he was all but immune to criticism from either the media or the law.
That began to change when he assumed his job as Bill Clinton's secretary of commerce in early 1993, and it changed absolutely when he ran afoul of the Clintons nearly three years later.
As Brown learned upon taking office, the Department of Commerce was home to the Office of Intelligence Liaison. This sub-department received intelligence reports from various agencies about pending international deals. It then discreetly forwarded this information to companies that might benefit. Among the best sources of intelligence was a global spy system, codename ECHELON, which was created by the National Security Agency, or NSA. This is the agency, of course, that congressional Democrats have scolded the Bush administration for employing to monitor potential terrorist communications.
ECHELON was capable of scrutinizing just about every fax, e-mail, phone call and telex message in the world. And like every other system during the Clinton years, especially the two desperate years preceding the election of 1996, it was fully capable of being abused.

Brown never met a bribe he didn't like.
If he knew that Clinton was onto to him I just don't know why would he accept a "trade mission" to Bosnia knowing deep down that it was shady.
yeah the storm the plane went down in was the "worst in 10 years" (at least that was the mantra all the media kept repeating. Brown needed that plane trip like a hole in the head.
Good one!
I have wondered if the use of Larry Flynt and his despicable offer of millions for any dirt on Republicans during the impeachment runup wasn't just a cover for information the Clintons already had through the misuse of FBI files, Echelon, etc. I suspect thay have and are extorting a lot of people.
wow this is like the good old days
This whole thing makes my skin crawl. To think there are people out there that are willing to put this pair of criminals back in the White House is just mind numbing.
Hitler had scads of willing helpers, too. No surprise that there are many sold souls out there.
Very interesting article. This is the problem I have with the Homeland Security Act. I have no problem with the Bush administration having these additional powers to monitor communications within the US, but I think these same powers would be used by any future Democratic administration to pursue its own corrupt objectives..a la the Clinton years.
In the final analysis, less government power means more freedom for you and me.

The thought of Hillary's attorney general (Jaimie Gorelick?) holding the levers on the Patriot Act is like someone dropped a popsicle down the back of my neck.
The plane flew straight into a mountain off course from the direct path of the runway..almost as if the ILS was being sent directly from the mountain side....hmm.
Pingski for laterski.
"I suspect thay have and are extorting a lot of people."
Since the ascension of Bill and Hill the Dems that lost election after election on local, state, and national levels. Perhaps the extortion angle explains why the Dems hold the Clintons so dear. Those 900 or so FBI files may have contained info on a Democrat or two.
Someone with knowledge please brief me on the technology possibility of this. I don't buy it.
