Terrorism will create severely limited government if its unchecked.

Heck, we are one dirty bomb away from being a police state.

The ACLU and it's well meaning fellow travelers may bring about that day by limiting our intelligence capabilities.

Can somebody explain something to me? If it didn't require an act of Congress to erect this wall, why does it require an act of Congress to take it down?

Because Congress has to be perceived by the unknowing public as being capable of doing something, even if it means imprisoning you and I for terroristic acts, rather than the terrorists.

Oh I don't blame him either! I think it's great and way overdue. The senate has become a joke, with too many who don't have the best interests of the country in their minds, if they ever did.

Double standard; it's really as simple as that. Dems get away with murder ( literally!), but GOPers can't even do what the law requires.

I think he will try and consider how to get even before he retires.

As Appropriations Chairman, he has a lot of clout. And he has reason to get even. I think he will throw the "decorum" out and do just that - get even.

Six months is WAY better than letting it expire next week. If they want to haggle over some of the provisions, knowing that future presidents will also have its powers, I'm okay with that.

Given that they have had years to deal with anything that needed to be changed regarding the Patriot Act, I would only ascribe the motives in trying for a six month extention to nothing more than playing it safe because if the Act expires and an attack happens...who would get the fallout from that? It will be interesting to see what the wording of any compromise looks like.

Well, the pubbies DID NOT hold together on this rider today -- I blame that on Frist. If he had the leadership skills necessary to be the majority leader, the majority would have held together, they did not.

You've got incredibly good internet access for one imprisoned for terrorism. BTW, when did it happen? I missed the headlines.

if it expired, then could Bush have done anything about it during the Senators Xmas break? Is that why they extended it?

I've been working on it for 90 days.

You need 2 forms of picture ID, proof of physical residence location, etc., etc.

The same for anyone who will be "accessing" your box.

Pretty difficult to do if you are, for example, living out of an RV.

Terrorism will create severely limited government if its unchecked.

And further curtailing liberties will create it even faster. Oh, never mind, the Republicans are in control and they wouldn't do that...

"The spirit of the times may alter, will alter. Our rulers will become corrupt, our people careless. A single zealot may commence persecutor, and better men be his victims. It can never be too often repeated that the time for fixing every essential right on a legal basis is while our rulers are honest and ourselves united. From the conclusion of their war for independence, a nation begins going down hill. It will not then be necessary to resort every moment to the people for support. They will be forgotten, therefore, and their rights disregarded. They will forget themselves but in the sole faculty of making money, and will never think of uniting to effect a due respect for their rights. The shackles, therefore, which shall not be knocked off at the conclusion of that war will remain on them long, will be made heavier and heavier, till their rights shall revive or expire in a convulsion." --Thomas Jefferson: Notes on Virginia Q.XVII, 1782.

By your statement, you favor terrorists and terrorist acts.

See how that works? ;^)
