Why .. I thought you wanted to fight the terrorists on your front porch??

That would be an easy way of getting them here fast

Extend it until the day that Bush leaves office. Then Hillary will have no laws to abuse.

If it has been good for 4 years and needed and extended for 6 more months, then why wouldn't it be good law until the war on terror is over?

Is it possible that with a bad person at the helm of this country the law could be harmful? I would think so. Having it be subject to periodic renewal allows for it to be killed if the person in power shouldn't be trusted with it.

Two different bills here.

The Patriot Act is separate from the Defense Appropriation Bill.

You've got that right! I've had the same PO Box address my whole life (living in a small town with no delivery) and I had to show 2 forms of ID, or 1 form and document my physical address with a utility bill just to renew the box. It's not like I don't know the postmaster and the clerks or anything, it's just what they are required to do now by Homeland Security.

However, personnel recognition is better than ID cards. :-)

Jefferson didn't bother with Congress, when he went after the Barbary Pirates

Jefferson made mistakes that is true. But the mistakes pale in comparison to what has been done since in the name of national security

We didn't really have a government, but Washington used spies against lots of people; especially Benedict Arnold!

Ah, I see. Washington couldn't have followed the Constitutional limitations because it wasn't in place yet. And because he didn't follow the Constitution (especially as he had no idea what it was) we should take that as a role model. Which means we should just ignore it as needed...Is that it?

If you'd stick with historical fact, instead of your own hallucinations about what the FFs would say or do now, you'd be on firmer footing

So their quotes aren't historical fact. Interesting....

And there isn't a thing in any of the FFs's writings, which pertain to what we face today vis-a-vis al Qaeda and the WoT!

Ah, but wait now. Earlier in this post you claim the Barbary Pirates as some sort of comparison to the WOST. Much as every Republican runs to do (even though there is not one). So which is it? Either the Framers dealt with an issue much the same as Al Qaeda (which is what Republicans use as an excuse for their actions in the WOST) or there isn't (which would mean they have no excuse for their actions on the WOST)

Hell, why don't you invent a working time machine and go back to your supposed UTOPIAN AMERICA? Of course, you wouldn't be able to exist back then, but, what the hey...maybe you'd learn your lesson; at last. LOL

Who's channeling now dear? I know quite well how my ancestors lived in North Carolina so long ago. No slaves after 1801, lived and farmed, hard work indeed. But growing up in the country I could fully well step back and after a time not miss a thing about this time. Especially the statists that would support any government action as long as the 'right' party is in control.

I wonder, would it be channeling to remind you of Washington's warning of partisanship, that you so readily exhibit, in his Farewell Address....

Isn't this what Frist said would be unacceptable?

Frist asserted that the President would not sign a 3 month extension, IIRC, and that he (Frist) would not put the bill providing for a 3 month extenstion to a vote. S.2082 was entered on the 12th.

Anyone who thinks the Gorelick Wall is acceptable for even 1 minute should be tarred and feathered.

The Gorelick Wall was / is not law. It was an interpretation from the Justice Department. Bush could change it the minute he took office, though his administration probably didn't have time to recognize and correct the problem prior to 9/11.

I'm sure she will make do without them.

By the time the IslamoNazis would be at your front porch, they would be running this country.

A lot of people think they already are. What other possible explanation can there be for the American people clamoring for more and more surveilance?

Are they doing something they shouldn't?

Yup. Doing their best to enjoy life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Familiar?

"Stevens was stabbed in the back pretty bad"

RINO's Spectre and Dewine (among a couple others) caused the cave-in 48-45 (vote count) to the Democraps obstruction. DeWine is such a wimp...Hilldabeast must really have a juicy FBI file on him to have him vote with the Dem's so often. 2 less defections and the extension with the removal of the ANWAR provision would have been defeated. The only REAL cohones in the Senate tonite belonged to Ted Stevens, and he really is going to get even with some of these yo-yo's in the future.

Don't use a government supplied PO box.

I would love to. Unfortunately, there's this monopoly (which also needs to go away).

Great trade-off, the RATS squash ANWR and we get 6 months on the Patriot, a 1 year defense bill and a bill for billions to rebuild a city below sea-level with no income. It's time the Republicans started acting like they are the Majority Party and start playing in the Big Leagues. If ANWR is not passed and the Patriot Act is not permanent within 6 months on their return from break, I will not donate 1 cent to the party.
