Someone better tell Harry Reid that the reports of the Patriots Acts dead were greatly exaggerated.

BTW, when did it happen?

The second they started frisking little old ladies at the airport.

What the heck are they currently voting on?,/i>

I was wondering that too. C-span finally put up "The Senate is voting on a measure to remove ANWR drilling from the Defense spending bill"

I don't know the answer to that, actually.

Well, that was fast.
I'd have loved to see what was said to the Dims and Rinos

if it expired, then could Bush have done anything about it during the Senators Xmas break? Is that why they extended it?

I don't think it would have expired until the end of this month but without an extension the congress will have little time to sit at home over the holidays.

Which means the defense spending will not be passed. They can't strip this out of the conference bill without the House voting on it again. Since the House did their job and left for Christmas break days ago, this means our troops will continue to be denied the funding they need to do THEIR jobs.

Thank a democrat today. And every other day a soldier dies this "holiday" season.

Well, we had no trouble. Most people wouldn't.

If you are reasonable, you will realize that your lack of a permanent address, in a time of war, will make things a little bit more difficult. Most of us would accept this as a reasonable difficulty caused by the unfortunant events of September 11, 2001.

I am certain there are ways to get through this. I am also sure that if those other people who would be accessing your box can't provide the necessary documentation, there is something wrong with the company you keep.

Sorry to be unsympathetic, but I am of the mind that we need to catch terrorists who want to kill us, even if US citizens are inconvenienced. I look at it in the same vein as sugar and coffee rations during WII.

Oh I see...to state that I believe the original intent of intelligence agencies was not to work within the separate and sovereign states supports the terrorists. Funny thing that. By their writings the Framers would have had the same view. I guess they supported terrorists too?

Hell, why don't you let the intelligence agencies bunk at your house? It's for your own good and one party hack knows better than the other party's hack right? Oh that's right, the Third Amendment gets in the way. Well we'll just toss that one out too. It's for safety after all. Should they B.Y.O.B. or do we provide it for them? As thanksgiving of course for their 'eternal vigilance'?

Try to go do something as (formerly) simple as rent a PO Box

You've got that right! I've had the same PO Box address my whole life (living in a small town with no delivery) and I had to show 2 forms of ID, or 1 form and document my physical address with a utility bill just to renew the box. It's not like I don't know the postmaster and the clerks or anything, it's just what they are required to do now by Homeland Security.

Because of the demand by nearly every financial institute these days that you provide your physical address, and knowing how much stuff about our account activity they are required to provide the government on request, I do fear the government is trying to build a database on where everyone lives.

It's not that I'm doing anything wrong, but I really liked my life of quiet anonymity. Between the state wanting the name of everyone living in a home (for 911 emergency use, of course), and them trying 3 times now to bribe property owners into telling them which of your properties you reside at, I just see that right to be free and independent fading away. Remember how the government used not care who you were unless you were breaking the law?
