"I couldn't possibly care less."

Then you protest far too much.

Bad etiquette? I am sorry but I don't think so.

If he doesn't want the ridiculous stuff he posts dragged up, he shouldn't throw it out there in the first place.

Happy Winter Solstice Day!

And a merry Yule to you indeed, friend.

It doesn't bother me is someone says Merry Christmas or not but I do believe that an assault is going on, regarding Christians this year. If there is a market for them then festivus poles will be advertised for sale. Christians however are offered holiday sales. Why?

With all of the things that now make the Christmas season about political correctness, over-commercialization and greed, it is refreshing that Festivus separates itself from that

And yet, Mr. Coe, you are in no way constrained to incorporate these elements into your celebration of Christmas. You don't need another holiday; just celebrate Christmas the way it was originally meant to be celebrated.

Salkin said. "I think it has to do with a need for tolerance and a holiday where you don't exclude anybody." "

See, I think this person misses the point entirely. Festivus is about rejecting BOTH sides of the annual "Sparring With The Infidel." It's about making fun of people who are so concerned about inclusion.

I can enjoy Halloween without being a pagan or practicing witchcraft.

I just happened to hear on the local radio show a caller who said she was a practicing Wiccan, and they celebrate with the Yule Log, I guess representing the Druidic holiday that preceded Christmas. But she said she has a Christmas tree, a Creche, AND a Jewish Menorah in her house as well as the Wiccan decorations and the Yule Log.

She also said her husband is Wiccan, and they have two children that are Wiccan. She also has two children that are Christian. The host asked her how that happened. She said, what does a Baptists kid do to rebel? He dabbles in the Occult. What does a Wiccan kid do? He accepts Jesus Christ. It was a fascinating call. She said everybody needs to get over the squabbling, because it's really all one big Feast Time, no matter which holiday you're celebrating.

So "Festivus" is an annual gripe session with a metal pole in the middle. Did I miss anything?

I think the point there is that that is what Christmas turns into when all the family are together and drinking, whether anybody will admit it or not.

Not tortured, just get a kick out of the pomposity of others.

Happy solstice.

I just love these "This is how it is at my house, so it must be the same everywhere else and they're just lying about it" lines. :-)

I can't say that I have ever experienced the kind of Christmas gathering this describes, neither with my family nor anyone else's.

I think you're supposed to have a sacrifice or something. I couldn't afford a goat this year but I'm willing to squish a bug...

Like Titus Pullo?

I think the Festivus episode on Seinfeld was funny, but if you take it beyond that, you have some serious issues that need to be dealt with.

I class this with "System Administrators Day", and "International Talk Like A Pirate Day." Arrrgh!

SG is a Seinfeld lover, along with me. Maybe she'll put together a Festivus thread.

Are we all going to air grievances about each other? And I just told the new guy we don't do that. Just dang.

"There are only two kinds of people in the world:

(1) Seinfeld fans
(2) People who didn't think Seinfeld was funny at all

I'm in Group 1. Group 2 will not find Festivus funny. I doubt the people celebrating it are taking it seriously. They're probably just big fans of the show.
:-)"

Well said. I've hosted 3 Festivus parties over the years, usually held New Year's Eve (I know, wrong date, but try getting a group of people together 2 days before Christmas!)as a theme party. Everyone has a great time, no one takes it seriously, and yes, we have an aluminum pole and air our grievances.

http://www.operationjustsaymerrychristmas.com/

The enemies of Christmas have succeeded in making Christians feel as if we are bad and intolerant to wish someone a "Merry Christmas". This is political correctness run amok. We have reached an all time low point in our nation's history when human sensibilities are elevated above offending Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It is long past the time for Christians to stand firm in our faith."

OPERATION: JUST SAY MERRY CHRISTMAS is a campaign designed to encourage Christians nationwide and around the world to PROUDLY proclaim The Christ Child as the center of the Christmas Season once again.

In an effort to help turn the tide, we have created this Christmas wristband to help emphasize once again that the central focus of this season is the Birth of the Christ Child. It is our hope that by wearing the wristband you will join us to remind others that to celebrate the true meaning of this Holy Season.....

JUST SAY "MERRY CHRISTMAS!"
