Your arguments assume that the FF's assumed the people to be stupid slobs without an ounce of sense or courage, ready to capitulate to the first strike of either a terrorist or a nuke event of any type.
I respectfully reject these points of view entirely!!! I believe that such events would be very much like major hurricanes, earthquakes and Liberals taking over both houses and Hitlery the executive at the same election. Very disruptive to say the least, but survivable.
By the way the FF's established the electoral college just as much for the reason of balancing the rural representation with the metro representation, to avoid the dominance we are seeing by metro-sexuals in this current day! The "One Man, One Vote," Warren Court decision that "Cows Don't Vote" making every state legislature the equivalent of a unicameral with both houses based on population only heightened the imbalance toward the metro-sexuals we see today.
So, what we have here is a dicotomy in the views of metro-easterners and rural-westerners. All you "huddled masses yearning to breathe free" in the original 13 states would cheerfully sacrifice your liberties for security. All us westerners, breathing free and wishing to continue doing so are not so sure about trusting things to government. Government, you see, when boiled down to it's purest essence... is nothing but pure, unmitigated FORCE!!!
That is why westerners prefer our individualism over the easterners bent toward socialism/collectivism. It's been an interesting thread and I thank you for making it so. Sincerely, The Waspman!!!
Right on!
One 9/11 a month won't do terminal damage, it wouldn't even equal the yearly loss of life due to car crashes every year.
Sealing our borders and deporting or making life so miserable for illegals and their employers that they leave on their own is far more important to me than a few buildings and a few thousand people getting killed, even if that includes me getting it.
Keep government out of my life.
All social expendatures by the federal government are unconstitutional as far as I can determine. Where the Constitution says "promote the general welfare" excludes spending any money, it eludes to a state dept. function of getting on their soap box and "promoting", nothing more.
In the hands of "The basest of men" as the Lord told us in Daniel 4:17
