That was also on October 26, 2001, about a month and a half after 9/11. The Democrats were tripping over themselves to show support for the President back then, because the polls told them to.

Did ya catch the camera that Leahy is holding

I just love this picture. It's much better than the old picture I have of Tom Daschle and Harry Reid, standing on a little bittie podium, addressing the press, trying to appear.....taller.

And Drudge has a huge readership from both sides of the aisle. Good picture that really says it all.

Reid has that look on his face like "I'm gonna stick it to this President. He's going down." or some such, because I didn't have time to check but I found a CBS News article, and Reid was pretty critical of the PA the moment it was signed into law.

The irony is too precious. I'm guessing Harry Reid didn't choose to stand closest to the President because he truly believed in the bill rather to get the historic photo-op. His ego for the glam-cam returns to haunt him.

The same Patriot Act authorized the TSA and the creation of 28,000 (hopefully unionized) Federal employees. With the downsizing of screeners and the ultimate return of private screeeners, the Act has out-lived its usefulness in the eyes of some.
