Liberal Jews may be suffering from the hubris of the Left: the notion that they alone are right, and everyone should conform to their thinking. It's particularly important that members of their group should conform. After all, they feel themselves a small, vulnerable group. But, in general, conformism leads eventually to stagnation.

Save your prayer for those who deserve them. Liberal Jews have access to all the data, but refuse to accept reality.

Some of the Jewish lefties suffer from Stockholm Syndrome. I'd trace some of this back to events in the NYC teachers strike in 1968, and "activist" incited threats and violence.
