I want to know two things:

1. Who contrived the fakeries?

2. What part did Tom Oliphant play in the ruse?
.

With the Rather-gate stain on their resumes', the only place Mary and Danny are going to get a job offer from is the NY Times.

Mary: The overhyped typeface criticisms ingeniously hijacked the story and created a false controversy, which media competitors gleefully exploited as proof that CBS had fallen short. In fact, ALL the evidence supported the documents' genuineness and that holds true today.

Snort! There goes Mary, rewriting history again. In fact, ALL the evidence supported the documents' disingenuineness, and that holds true today. (Even the CBS analysts claim their reports were misquoted, taken out of context, twisted, and deliberately misrepresented to support rather than criticize Mapes's conclusion.) Mary, Mary, you're quite the contrarian.

And yet, any observant person should have realized this long before MM committed her lying blunder.

The fact that she didn't, and the fact that most liberal still cannot understand what has happened, shows that they do not bother to test their theories against reality because reality is just not that important to them.

Did you know that the DUmmies think the main stream media is biased towards President Bush? They really do.

There is not a jury in the world that would believe Ms. Mapes assertion that these documents are real.

She is basically saying that it isnt about the documents...its the STORY that is real...the documents are just a red herring for the evil republicans to attack her good name. lol

Yes, I do. It's a hoot when they talk about CNN being a mouthpiece for the right!

From Mapes above: ... two analysts validated the documents' typing and signatures and two others deferred to them before our broadcast, despite their later characterizations.

One of those "analysts" was Marcel Matley the faker who "validated" the phony Vince Foster "suicide note

Mary Mapes wikipedia entry needs serious rewriting by Freepers. Be nice though, just factual.

Amen on the "thanks to management" end on leaving it in news, and you are so welcome for the thread.

I'm far from a prude, but I really hate to see this kind of disgusting imagery in common useage.

remember Carter chatting it up with the Soviets, asking for their help to defeat Reagan? They've been doing it again and again and again, and well before 9-11.

Selling out Vietnam in '75.

Carter and the Canal giveaway.

Carter and the betrayal of the Shah, unleashing these islamofascist demonspawn.

The left's demonization of Reagan as he parked Pershing II's across from the Soviet SS20's in Europe.

Iran-Contra, which was a successful repeat of their "forsake our Vietnam ally" - hamstringing our support to anti-communist rebels (Kerry went and stopped by for a photo-op with Daniel Ortega, just like the photo-op he had in Hanoi over at that NVA heroes museum... some things and some traitors never change...).

Through the 90's, Clinton's inability to fight terror - the 1993 WTC in which Iraq & Saddam WERE involved! - the embassies, the COLE.

And now, post 9-11, the continued leaks that hurt our war effort, the continued lack-of-support that helps the enemy's morale, thus endangering more of my warrior brethren's lives.

The list is endless.

Jefferson once said, "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." - it is plainly obvious to any who will see where our patriots are today; they are the firemen & policemen who valiantly responded on that tuesday morning over 4 years ago... they are our military currently fighting and winning the war on the battlefield. From where I stand, at this moment in time only half of Jefferson's quote is right.

It seems unjust to me. I don't have patience for the ROE Effect to take it's toll on these last, virulent dregs of the 60's hippies as they grasp for power and their failed dream of orwellian utopia.

When will this vermin taste in blood the bitter fruit they sow, and for which good American men and women - their betters by far - now pay in life and limb to counter?

What impresses me is that a publisher has approached a conservative to write a book! The times, they are a' changin'--

Isn't it, though.

I actually question how God, in His infinite wisdom, has seen fit to make such creatures in the semblance of rational persons. I've got a border collie who has a better understanding of the world than these folks do.

The fabricator's] personal experience was with the 987-65-4321 FV format (actually, the Army Guard used different codes), so when he grabbed the service number from files to add a hint of authenticity to the memos, he probably reverted to habit. Stupid, because if you look at Bush's real records, you will see the letters FG as a prefix - he couldn't even plagiarize correctly!

Which once again points to Burkett as the fabricator. For Mapes to say that the documents were well vetted when a certified nut case like Burkett is the beginning and end of the chain of custody shows Mapes to be delusional.

I look forward to this expose of witch Mapes. She's gonna wish she left well enough alone, that she had not written her book.

But I saw once on TV and thought she was pretty good at the lying game. She came across in a credible way. Not an obvious phony

Right after we all started hearing about the SeeBS story, I read somewhere that the secretary of Killian said that she didnt remember ever hearing Airman Bush being spoken of in the office.I have not been able to find it again. Any idea where I can find it?

Dan Rather's initial, furious street-side defense of an amateurish forgery — smug, huffy, self-righteous — brings to mind one of those bad movies about the Paris barricades, especially the grainy, black-and-white shots of powdered and wigged aristocrats on their way to the Guillotine, yelling out of their carriages at pitchfork-carrying peasants.

Worse than being duped, worse than cobbling together a highly politicized hit-piece during a war and in the waning days of an election, worse than the shady nature of the "unimpeachable" sources and the likely sordid origins of the story, and worse even than the pathetic nature of CBS's "expert" witnesses — worse than all that was Rather's ten-day denial of reality, culminating in the surreal half-admission that the phony documents could not be verified as accurate. That's the equivalent of saying that a corpse cannot be proven to be alive.

Found this and loved it.

Aah, nobody even knows who Mary Mapes is except for political junkies. They know Rather got busted passing off some fake memos written in Word with Times New Roman font. THAT people can understand. Mapes' contention that this is all very esoteric and mystical is hogwash.
