Yes, that's the impression I've gotten from the comments on the thread, regarding his political leanings. While I'd heard of The Puzzle Palace, I hadn't read it, so wasn't familiar with his take on things.

Puzzle Palace is a decent read, it is mainly history though. Body of Secrets isn't bad either (it can explain a lot of the flap going on about NSA now.) "A Pretext for War" and the NSA book about Bush are pure excrement. The spin is so left in these books that you'll throw up from the motion. Bamford himself has never worked for the NSA, is a journalist by trade, and a professor at Berkeley. He may have contacts at the NSA, but I wouldn't trust them, as these are the same types who are leaking stories about the domestic spying (in other words they are agenda driven employees).
