Advent of Imam Mehdi has taken place, henceforth anyone claiming to be Imam Mehdi is an impostor. That is the Shia view. Imam Mehdi exists and lives in the world, his life prolonged and his appearance hidden until the appointed day. The Sunni view is that he is yet to be born.
It is not clear, in this article, what type of "Mahdi" the Pakistani was claiming to be. I think a false appearance of the occulted one, as he refers to "Imam Mehdi."
