Does anyone know why it took so long to complete his execution? I've heard snippets; but that's all I've found.

I have no idea why it took so long. The murder happened in the 1970's. I think you could have a process where the inmate is given plenty of chance to appeal (as the DP is very serious and should be fully litigated) any problem areas and the whole case is decided in say no more than five years. I think a 1984 or 1985 execution would have been very reasonable.

The actual execution ran into some problems. Something about getting the needle inserted? I wonder what happened and why...?

Stanley "Tookie" Williams' wish to have his ashes scattered in South Africa is met. Maybe having his ashes scattered on the land of a butchered white farmer in Zimbabwe might have been more appropriate...

Dammit, where's the "Mega-Barf Alert" in the headline here. FR does have rules, you know.

Tookie Williams - African-American role model?
I don't think so. He was a punk, a bully, a murderer and a scumbag.
Those celebrating Tookie's life aren't doing a damn thing to help youngsters get out of the ebonic, ghetto, don't-act-white mentality.

He was smarter than I thought. No "piss on the grave party" for the real masses.

My mom always told me that if you can't say something good about the dead, then don't say anything at all. "He's dead. Good."
You made me laugh - pretty good.

I equally pay my respects, too.

At lease he could have an open casket. The people he shot didn't have heads left for anyone to view!

"Tookie Williams - African-American role model?"
After more than 40 years of following the antics of Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Harry Belafonte, O.J., Snoopy Dog, Kanya West, Danny Glover, Mamia Jamal, Jamie Fox, Dick Gregory, Dwain Thomas, Ricki Williams, Dennis Rodman, Mercury Morris, Tawana Brawley, Sista Solja(sic), Tyrell Owens, and Randall Robinson, who is to say that Tookie wasn't a role model after all. Anyway, I stopped concerning myself with this after watching the student body of Howard University applaud and cheer when the OJ Simpson verdict was announced.

Well I guess you can say, 200 is sort of like hundreds. It is 100 more than 100. I wonder how many of these people paid their respects to people like Chappie James when he died?
