Congress passed new legislation which permitted the wiretapping of US citizens without a warrant.

She must be forgotting that THEY gave the president the authority to conduct warrantless wiretaps against US citizens. It's clear in the link. The article was written before the House passed the legislation and the language is in the Patriot Act.

I think the left wants the Patriot Act to go away so they can force impeachment proceedings with the hope the public does NOT understand that Congress gave the president the authority to conduct these wiretaps.

But President Bush spoke today and explained the difference, several times, between monitoring and intercepting.

Monitoring is what he is accused of yet that is not what was authorized and performed. He even explained that monitoring would be eavesdropping on a call (he gave the example) between LA and Houston.

What he authorized is intercepting incoming calls to the USA to people with known ties to terrorists.

Or am I missing something here?

Why not? It goes right along with their attacking him for engaging in a war they authorized.

I thought I would never see anything more bizarre in politics than some of the spin that the Clintonistas put out. However, the attacks on the president by those who voted FOR the war are uniquely weird.
