I've still never met a person who admits to celebrating Kwanzaa. Every African-American I know celebrates Christmas.
Must be because I am some sort of racist who needs diversity eduction, right?

Why was Tookie put down so close to Kwanza?

"I've still never met a person who admits to celebrating Kwanzaa."
It's sort of a soulful "Festivus," with all the added joy and gravitas that being firmly grounded in Marxism can bring.
To: AbeKrieger
Google "Kwaanza". Then Google "Festivus". Count the hits for each.

Too strong. Heck? Yeah, that's about right.
To: Bob J
Kwanzaa seems to be dying out, IMHO. I hear less and less about it every year.

I'm set for English-only.
Kwanzaa: 3.8 Million
Festivus: 775,000
Interesting, considering one is a fictional holiday that is gaining in popularity (Festivus), and the other is a bogus cultural celebration that is losing credibility by the day (Kwanzaa).
BTW, the official currency of the country of Angola is called the Kwanza.

You'd have to visit an American University to actually see a kwanzaa celebration.

Oddly, the universities are usually closed during Kwanzaa. But it still gets a good push.

I heard Rev. Jesse Peterson speak on this on CBN one day and it made me look more into what he has to say about this made up holiday.....
"Kwanzaa is not even a legitimate African holiday. The founder of Kwanzaa, Ron Karenga (a.k.a. Maulana Karenga) himself admits he made up this Pagan holiday to give Blacks a false sense of culture and identity. The word "Kwanzaa" itself is fabricated. It is derived from the Swahili phrase "matunda ya Kwanzaa" which means first fruits. "

OK, so does "Kwanzaa" mean "first" or "fruits" in Swahili? Just wondering.
To: massgopguy
We should also factor in time.
Kwanzaa originated in 1966, whereas "Festivus" came about (on the Seinfeld show) in 1997.
