There are two girls born in her small community for every boy. Isn't that a Beach Boys song?

She never worried about the oil slicks in Talfourd Creek, the acrid odors that wafted in on the shifting winds or even the air-raid siren behind her house whose shrill wail meant "go inside and shut the windows." I would have worried.

This is horrible. We can know that Global Warming is an unfounded theory, but there is no theory in pollution and the affects.

In a population of 850 people one would expect about 3 babies per year; if the families predisposed to have boys decided to move away during the period of the study, the results could be skewed to this degree simply by their absence
This study needs to continue to adjust for multiple births, eligible mates, etc.

What is the actual number of births we're talking about here? 850 people in the entire town shouldn't yield a lot of babies.
Also, don't look at band statistics: look at birth statistics.

Less boys born? Shouldn't lib / fem groups consider this a good thing?

Too small a study group will give invalid results. For example - there's a group here who are getting into organic foods and they all had girl babies.

And the levels of likely suspects such as PCBs and mercury have actually decreased in the past decade. Mystery solved. There aren't enough PCB's and mercury present.

Shades of Erin Brockavich. After all the hoopla settle down and the owner of the power plant had been forced by the emotional propaganda to settle a class action suit for $300,000,000, it was proved that chromium in drinking water, the abuse charged, is not harmful to humans and the amount needed to cause problems from breathing it far exceed the amount emitted by the plant. In other words, no one was harmed by the plant.
After all the ballyhoo over Love Canal, where I have been by the way, and the expenditure of billions on hazardous waste site cleanup, statistics show that there was absolutely no difference in the incidences of, or deaths from, cancer during the period before the site existed, while it was there, and after the cleanup. It was all leftists hooey to gain more government control and make lawyers rich. The lawyers dutifully return the favor by contributing to the Democrats.
Three Mile Island. No harm to anyone. DDT, safe as can be and its banning has allowed millions of unnecessary deaths from malaria.
Educate your selves before you believe all this.
Old Professer, this was just FYI.
