Last week Washington buzzed about a Newsweek cover story depicting President Bush trapped inside a bubble....

Some 2,400 miles away in Sacramento, Calif., the Republican Assembly caucus had much the same concern on Tuesday, when Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger visited them for an hour-long gripe session about his sudden selection of Democrat Susan Kennedy to be his new chief of staff. ...

Her appointment by Mr. Schwarzenegger stunned California political observers... Even moderate Republicans are outraged. "This appointment does more to alienate the governor's solid base of Republican support than anything I could have imagined in my worst nightmare," says Mark Johnson, a co-founder of the New Majority, a moderate GOP group that contributed millions of dollars to the governor's reform initiatives this year.

Public statements after the meeting between the governor and GOP legislators and a similar one held two days later with the executive board of the California Republican Party were upbeat. Mr. Schwarzenegger left the party meeting claiming Republicans were "one big family." ... GOP chairman Duf Sundheim went so far as to claim that "we support his decision" to hire Ms. Kennedy, a conclusion that others who were present openly dispute.

The earlier powwow with the GOP legislators also left unresolved issues. Before the governor arrived, Schwarzenegger aides Richard Costigan and Rob Stutzman briefed legislators, warning them that attacks on Ms. Kennedy would only cause their boss to "dig in his heels." They were advised not to bring up Mr. Davis's 2001 Oracle scandal...

Thus when Mr. Schwarzenegger arrived to talk with GOP legislators, the discussion was understandably constrained. After someone brought up Ms. Kennedy, the governor shocked and offended his audience by telling the legislators that "The reason you don't like her is that she's a lesbian, and lives openly with another woman." ...

Democratic state Senator Carole Migden told the San Francisco Examiner that she envisions her friend Ms. Kennedy as a kind of dual governor: "Arnold can now go out and campaign and Susan will stay at the Statehouse and get things done."

Yeah gee John. Don't waste any ink taking Flush the Koran Newsweak to task for their hilariously hypocirtial story on Bush. Publish yet another waste of time freak out at California. Gee JOHN, guess you don't realize that CA is a STATE matter for California voters. It is NOT an issue of the LEAST concern to the other 200 or so NON Californian Americans. No wonder nothing gets done when the supposedly "Conservatives" waste all their time shooting at their own team over irrelevancies instead of going after the utterly treasonous Democrat Spin Machine. Doubtlessly Fund is ALSO one of the Whine All The Time Choir endlessly bitching "Why doesn't Bush fight back". Gee John Fund, he is only busy being President, don't tell us you want him to do YOUR job too?

Think twice. What happened here in CA with Arnold is going to happen nationally. They are going to try and give us McCain and claim that a vote for anyone else is a vote for Hillary.

No wonder nothing gets done when the supposedly "Conservatives" waste all their time shooting at their own team over irrelevancies instead of going after the utterly treasonous Democrat Spin Machine.

Susan Kennedy is part of that Democrat machine. Here are some highlights::

1972:  At age 12, was inspired by actress Jane Fonda's support of American Indian and free-speech causes and opposition to the Vietnam War.

1977:  Lived in Lancaster, Pa., within the evacuation zone of Three Mile Island.  Developed a distrust of the establishment

1979: Enrolls and subsequently drops out of Millersville State College in Pennsylvania "because she was partying too much."

1980:  Moved cross country to join Jane Fonda and Tom Hayden's "Campaign for Economic Democracy," a breeding ground for political training in campaigning, fundraising and field organizing, leading to a series of jobs and becoming one of the state Democratic Party's top field organizers.

198x-1991: Executive director of the California Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League

1991-1994:  Executive director of the California Democratic Party, selected by then party chairman, Phil Angelides

1992:  Helped lead one of the biggest get-out-the-vote campaigns which put Feinstein in the Senate and helped put Bill Clinton in the presidency.

1993: Political director for Kathleen Brown seeking office of California Governor.

1995 to 1998: Worked as communications director to Democratic U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein.

1995:  Begins program of recovery from alcohol addiction

1998:  Director of the California Democratic Party's Coordinated Campaign, a grass-roots campaign effort for 1998 election.

1998:  Appointed Cabinet secretary by Governor Gray Davis.  She was credited with managing the Democratic governor's initiatives on child support enforcement, energy conservation and health care, among other issues.  Reportedly, she promoted Gray Davis' energy plans in 2001, and issuance of $12 billion in bonds to purchase more power, warning legislators of "Armageddon."  She also acted as chief negotiator in budget discussions with legislators in 2001, angering many that the Governor did not participate more.  (We all know how those energy and budget matters turned out).

1999:  "Married" in a Maui commitment ceremony to lesbian partner Vicki Marti, a psychotherapist.  Democratic lobbyist and party operative Darius Anderson, her best friend, served as her "best man"

2001: Had an active role in approving a $96-million contract with Oracle Corp. to provide software that state managers did not want or need, an issue raised by state Sen. Tom McClintock during confirmation hearings for her 2003 PUC appointment.

2003:  Appointed to a six-year term on the Public Utilities Commission by Gray Davis, with an annual salary of $114,191.  Meanwhile, Gray Davis also appoints her domestic partner, Vicki Marti, to the California Medical Assistance Commission whose function it is to set hospital Medical rates--a plum job paying an annual salary of $99,000 and requiring only 2 meetings per month.

2005:  Reaches her senior year in college after 13 years of part time study.

Is this for real? She's taken 13 years of study to get within striking distance of a degree?

Yep. Here's the source:

A Maverick Voice on Phone Rules
Los Angeles Times, May 22, 2005
Author: James S. Granelli; Times Staff Writer, Business Desk
Estimated printed pages: 6

Susan P. Kennedy seethes when people call her "anti-consumer."

She is, after all, a Democrat, a former top aide to Sen. Dianne Feinstein and former Gov. Gray Davis, who put her on the California Public Utilities Commission in January 2003.

As the state's highest-ranking openly gay public official, she embraces the party's ideals of civil rights and individual freedoms. "I'm a Democrat to the core," she said.

(snip)

"To her own dismay, Kennedy has spent 13 years studying part time to reach her senior year in college. She insists she will finish. She promised her father."

=======================================================

Irrelevancies?! I'm not sure where you're coming from. The "Republican" Governor of California just betrayed every Californian (let alone Republican) who went to an EXTRAORDINARY effort to vote Democrat Grey Davis OUT and a Republican into the California governorship, by hiring the two ARCHITECTS of Davis' entire Administration to run Arnie's Administration. Irrelevant?! The woman Arnie hired as chief of staff arranged a kickback scheme with Oracle to purchase MORE software licenses than the State has employees. She's as corrupt as..well, as any Democrat could be. She's now running the CA GOP, and you blame CONSERVATIVES??! Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.

It'd be like George Bush appointing Dean as Secretary of State and Kerry as Secretary of Defense. Ummm.. irrelevant?

Again, I can't quite get where you're coming from, but you sound like yet another Republican "moderate" bashing the 90% of CA conservative voters who vote for just about any garbage on the ballot, as long as there's "GOP" after his or her name.

It's not gaining Republicans in CA anything. It's doing a lot of harm. It's not the conservatives who are "shooting at their own team" in California, it's nice guys like you.

Take a deep breath. Count to three.

There will always be Republican trolls on FR. Especially on the California Topic.

They're assigned on a revolving schedule by the RNC.

Just as it is the duty of the California 'Ilk' to try to sabotage any conservative with a chance of winning. I betcha Arnie takes a sick pleasure in turning the knife in the ilk's back. It buys him more votes to distance himself from them than in futile pandering to them.

to sabotage any conservative with a chance of winning.

Sabotage winning?

It's an interesting concept when winning to the RNC, CAGOP and other moderates translates to record spending, record debt, record taxes and the appointment of high ranking Democrats to guide the party's highest, elected official; a foreign national.

The situation seems more a political comedy, in the finest tradition of the Road Runner cartoon series, than an earnest effort to implement conservative values. If the CAGOP keeps "winning" we won't need the loony left. Right now a blue dog would be a marked improvement over the curator of the smoking tent.

Can't really find anything to argue about with your post. Trouble is, when 'blue dog' was first used the demonratz hadn't been completely infiltrated with communists. Now they have and now they are completely corrupt.

Sabotage winning? Yes, when we rant and join our corrupt enemies in attacks on our own we sabotage winning. The way should be clear; always vote for the most conservative candidate in the primary, but bit your tongue and vote for the primary winner. Then the hard part, baring with him. My friggin' tongue is bloody trying to avoid saying negative things about Arnie. I'm extremely disappointed and will never support him in any sort of primary. He did have a window of opportunity, which he screwed seven ways from Sunday. The seven ways gave his 'detractors' plenty of ammo. The latest result was important referendum which the middleground sleep through. Yes, sabotaging victory.

Who squeezed you, Johnnie? Why did you find it necessary to smear a great CA editorial writer for the WSJ on CA issues with all that pussey thinking??? That was not very nice and civil you know. What stirred such vitriol in your little soul? Huh???

Why are you commenting on CA issues with a handle like Minnesota Johnnie. If you can do it, someone who actually studies our CA issues like John Fund should most CERTAINLY be able to do it!!! Stop flattering yourself!!! It's unbecoming!!!
