No need to be so high and mighty.

We are not that far removed from this sort of thing ourselves.

It was only about 100 years ago that a judge in this country ruled that you could only beat your wife with a stick no larger than your thumb.

About seventy years ago it was justifiable homicide to kill a wife caught in the act of adultery.

These things are horribly wrong and need to be stopped, but it does take time to change an ancient culture.

The Western European Culture had a huge head start on the Eastern Mediterranean Culture as far as women’s rights.

In the middle ages Irish women could vote and own land (prior to the English invasion). Not to mention if they owned land they were obligated to serve in the army or hire a replacement.
