I am a Libertarian-leaning Republican and I am pro-life. But, what I do have contempt for is the, as you say, "right to lifers" who will advocate for policies that are unwise and will have long-lasting consequences that result in anarchy against the judicial system.

The kinds of advocating for federal government intervention, by the "right to lifers", during the Schiavo ordeal was very troubling to me...yes, even more so than hearing about that young woman's death. Believe it or not, she is in a much better place: the same cannot be said for those responsible for her death. God will do justice in this matter after searching the motives and intents of everyone involved.

Yes, I like my tax cuts and yes, on a personal level, I try and live my life righteously by making decisions of high morals, but when it comes to what's really important to my Libertarian-leanings and my view of what's best for the country, are the ideas of federalism and limited government. If you've got problems with that, then yes, "strange bedfellows" it is.

The 14th Amendment made the Federal Government the protector of each American citizen. Even before this, it was established that one could appeal from the State Supreme Courts to the United States Supreme Court. In this case, the State Supreme Court would not permit the legislature to intervene. Wise or not, the Congress had every right to intervene where the State courts had, in my opinion, effectively usurped the lawmaking power of the State legislatures.
