I don't think it divided the people. I think it cleared out some cobwebs.

The GOP leadership wouldn't have acted unless they were hearing from the voters.

The msm took its usual stance of helping the opposition to confuse the facts and make it appear the country was split.

The St. Pete Times was right in the middle of our activities in Pinellas Park, surrounded by facts and evidence, yet unflappable. Although reporters were affable, their sympathies never translated to story. St. Pete Times building right around the corner in Clearwater from the Judge Greer court.

"I don't think it divided the people ..."

Interesting you should say that.

I recall FR becoming a flaming war zone. In fact one could not ask a civil question of fact without being castigated and set upon.

To even hint that it did not divide people is an absurdity.

Yes. There was plenty of "shouting," that's the American way. But I don't think we are a divided people on the right. At least we shouldn't be. I'd hate to think of us as the extreme counterparts to what passes for the Democratic Party these days.

The msm sought to control the story and the events, just as they did with Elian Gonzalez.

Cuban President Fidel Castro puts his hand on the head of Elian Gonzalez Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2005, in the coastal city of Cardenas Cuba. Gonzalez. Gonzalez, wearing his school uniform, sat next to Castro at the political event recalling the island's successful campaign to gain custody of the boy from the United States. The Cuban boy thrust into the center of an international custody battle six years ago, celebrated his 12th birthday Tuesday listening to a two-hour speech by Castro. (AP Photo/Jorge Rey)

That brought out a forgotten knot in my stomach, emotions which had subsided, but not completely forgotten and I am glad you reminded me.

This article may be wishful thinking on the part of the writers, however Terri's case was never really about politics. However, if there is some truth in this article, then so be it for the Republicans who stood for life. Many have been "crucified" for righteousness' sake.

"The wish list for the Christian right has been swept away."

While the authors do indeed have most of it wrong, they are on to something with the above quote. However, there should be a little correction - "The wish list for the Christian right has been swept given away."

The editorial comments in this article are too numerous to count.

the Bush administration's bungled response to Hurricane Katrina all have played roles, analysts and lawmakers say.

General Russel L. Honore would say, "This entire article is just B.S."

The St Pete Times is dominated by Scientology money and influence, home to their world headwuarters. The story of that cult's influence in Terry's murder has not yet been told.
This piece of mullet wrapper journalism is too long and too silly. It bears no resemblance to the truth.

Blame Terri Schiavo.

I hope the idiots at the Times are enjoying themselves today, because I have to think there are some very hot places in hell reserved for people who publish rot like this so smugly.

The St Pete Times is dominated by Scientology money and influence...

I suspect that the truth of Scientology and its lust for death is too despicable for mere mortals to endure. Apparently, Pinellas County sold its soul a long time ago. If you live there, and you believe in Diving Judgment, you may want to check out real estate in Montana.

To me, these are the defining issues of our times:

-Men(ace) in Black? SCOTUS goes Rogue...--

-Useless Eaters vs The Death Cult--

-Thunder on the Border-- (Minuteman Project)--

1- an unaccountable Judiciary.
2- whose life is it, anyway? Yours, or someone else's?
3- whose Country is it?

There are other vital issues, of course- but these three will determine just who we really are as a nation.

And by the way, Cincy- Seasons greetings to you and yours.

I have mixed feelings on the Schiavo ordeal. If the results of this FR poll - with the poll question worded the way that it is - is any indication of the influence that the evangelicals have on the GOP, then count me as "not on board" with it. Any FReeper should be weighing the issues of morality with the issues of freedom: if this weighting was given proper consideration by the 50+ % who voted then I will disassociate with them at the earliest political convenience. The majority sentiment expressed in that poll is, in my opinion, terribly short-sighted.

How could they let her die?

The writer of this fairy tale misses one important point -there is a difference between permitting death and procuring death. Terri was not allowed to die -she was murdered -starved and dehydrated to death...
