Everything I have read about Jack the Ripper leads me to the conclusion that British authorities didn't actually want to solve the murders out of fear as to who the killer was, they just wanted the murders to stop.

Jack The Ripper was actually The Loch Ness Monster.
For his encore, he will reveal the location of Atlantis, I suppose.

I'm going to London in April and plan to take the Jack the Ripper walking tour. I'll be all over the case then.
Elementary, my dear wagglebee.

Everything I've read about the Ripper murders has lead me to believe that the Ripper murders were done by a writer's circle in possession of a time machine so that the said writers' circle could make a fortune on writing about these unsolved murders. (alternative reality alert...might make a good story, anyway)

I remember my gandma telling me that when she was growing up in Ireland mean folks would scare children by saying "the ripper's gonna get you". Would't it be amazing if they could really prove who done it? After Cain I guess Jack the Ripper is the most famous murderer of all time.

It'd be very interesting to finally know who it might have been.
Though, if there's DNA involved, look out for OJ's Dream Team to try to get him off.

"... the identity of serial killer Jack the Ripper".
It's already been solved, as far as I'm concerned. If you're really interested, read "Portrait of a Killer: Jack the Ripper-Case Closed" by Patricia Cornwell. It's a done deal. An artist named Walter Sickert was Jack the Ripper.

I remember a TV special maybe 10 or 15 years ago. They brought together several of the worlds top investigators from Scotland Yard, FBI, Interpol etc.
They presented all the known facts and at the end had each investigator submit his vote on a card.
When they tallied them, each one had named the same person. I can't recall his name but he was a Polish Jew.

"It is commonly accepted by the experts on the case that none of the letters purported to have been written by the Ripper were in fact written by him."
This may not be a good way to prove the case after all.

Democrats in Congress ask for investigation into potential Bush administration involvement. Sources say that vice president Cheney will likely be asked to testify.
