Let's think about this for 2 seconds.

There's a hole in the hull below the waterline and the ship is sinking.

First we put a cover backed with structure over the hole to largely stem the flow and then start bailing and man the pumps. Then we do a proper hull repair.

Finally, if we need water, it'll be taken from the sea and properly filtered before use.
