Just in time for a nice shake-down sortie to Tehran.

Will work against Chinese MIGs I assume.

Critics have termed it unaffordable overkill in a world without the potential threat of a Soviet Union able to send swarms of MiGs into a dogfight, which prompted its inception in 1986. Of course these same critics wanted the Soviet Union to win the Cold War.

Of course these same critics wanted the Soviet Union to win the Cold War.Yeah, and they aren't even satisfied that the order was scaled all the way down to only 183 planes INSTEAD OF THE 750 THAT WERE ORIGNALLY PLANNED!!! Sheeesh!

I was told it had about the same amount of horsepower as the entire starting grid--of 3 NASCAR races.

I bet the flyaway costs would be a lot lower for 750.

Kudos to the USAF for keeping a clear vision, despite the detractors.
This is a superb aircraft for tomorrow's Air Battlefield, and a good many on the ground, too.

Can the F-22A do Mach 1 in a vertical climb like an F-15 can?

It's not overkill, it's underkill, in terms of numbers. If we commit to a small number of superior ... ahhh ... platforms, aren't we susceptible to being swamped by an overwhelming number of inferior opponents? This is what has always worried me vis a vis China. I always imagine some massive assault on an aircraft carrier, where we simply can't counter every single threat, and one penetration is fatal.

I only wish that the Aussie government would stump up the money and take up the offer to buy the F-22.
