Following the discovery of e-mail addresses connected to the MD4Bush mystery, the WBAL-TV 11 News I-Team has uncovered the electronic trail of Internet activity.
Also Friday, Baltimore Mayor Martin O'Malley responded to the latest twist in the MD4Bush mystery.
Last October, MD4Bush used private e-mails on the Free Republic's Web site to coax a former aide to Gov. Bob Ehrlich, Joe Steffen, into discussing the personal life of Baltimore's mayor.
The 11 News I-Team has learned that MD4Bush routinely logged on to the Internet from a computer in the Pasadena area. On Feb. 8 -- the night the story broke about Steffen -- MD4Bush used a computer in Baltimore to make public the private e-mails Steffen had written.
Jim Robinson, the owner operator of Free Republic, revealed on Friday more of what he knows of the electronic trail of the Internet user MD4Bush.
"MD4Bush's (Internet Protocol) addresses are all local Maryland IPs. For a large nationwide Internet service provider, nothing can be learned from them without a subpoena," Robinson said.
According to a Free Republic representative, the records of the ISP would link the MD4Bush account to a specific name and address.

On Friday, the mayor himself acknowledged he not only knows O'Doherty, but endorsed his hiring.
"He's a good guy, and I do know him," O'Malley said.
The mayor repeated that he doesn't know the identity of MD4Bush.
"I don't know who MD4Bush was, and if I find out, my wife and I will thank that person for exposing Gov. (Bob) Ehrlich, and his gutter politics, and his dirty tricks henchman Joe Steffen," O'Malley said.
Sources told the 11 News I-Team that the electronic trail of MD4Bush does not indicate the postings originated from a government or institutional computer.

Please forgive my ignorance on this subject. Could you or someone on this thread explain what the MD4Bush story is about or direct me to a thread that explains it? Thanks.

Welcome to Baltimore, folks. That magnificent city that is home to the world's dumbest mayor. Even Marion Berry down the road in D.C. wouldn't be this stupid when he was snorting cocaine. As for MD4BUSH, you hooked your wagon to the wrong horse. I just want to know if you got paid to pull this stupid stunt, or if you did it out of some blind loyalty to my beloved city's whining, sniveling excuse for a mayor? I will not post the name of who we believe is MD4BUSH here, but the email registration and name is listed in yesterday's Baltimore Sun. Here's the link:

Here's a
MD4Bush Primer. Also look at the articles linked in the first post at the link (on the prior page, if you're viewing 50 or less posts per page). The primer hasn't been updated to include this week's events.

For technically minded FReepers, the following is provided:
IP's are tied to MAC addresses which are tied to specific network cards(NIC). Unless someone swaps out their NIC, it is easy to trace the time/date and verify the actual PC. Even if they do swap the NIC, most businesses have with data circuits have a static range of IP's they get assigned. If it was a DSL connection then the ISP can easily tell which phone line was used, and limit the scope of the search to a specific network within a house or business. If the connection was from a cable modem then the range is geographically assigned which means you can tell within a couple of blocks where it came from.

See, when you excerpt something like this, it's considered a good practice, not to mention common courtesy to give us a clue as to who "Ryan Doherty" might be.
Is he a pen pal of yours? the Governor of Hawaii? MD4Bush?

I didn't excerpt because I wanted to, but because I'm required to. Ryan O'Doherty is the former spokesman for the Maryland Democrat Party who is the main suspect as being or working with MD4Bush. He resigned his party spokesman position shortly before the MD4Bush story broke in February, and was recommended by the Baltimore City Mayor (D) and Baltimore County Executive (D) for a non-advertised staff position with the Baltimore Metropolitan Council. Quid pro quo? We don't know.
Unfortunately, I can't fill in the blanks in every MD4Bush post. It would take too long. But here's a
MD4Bush Primer. The link is to Version 2, which was written last month. I'll try to update it to include recent events in the next few days.

"IP's are tied to MAC addresses"
This is not always the case. If you have a static IP address, you are correct, but if you have a dynamic IP address, there may be no correlation to the MAC addres. The MAC address is, however, always directly tied to the network card.

Besides that, who the hell are "sources"? I always consider them imaginary friends...

Regardless of static versus dynamic, the ip to mac correlation is always there. In the case of dynamic, whether or not it will be traceable will come down to a question of whether or not the dhcp server kept a log of all of its' transactions or not.

"The more we learn, the quieter the dems will get."
On the contrary, when the dems are the loudest, they are trying to hide something. The dems will accuse the republicans of what they are doing hoping to distract the common (on the street) idiot who just reads the left wing newspapers or watch the left wing liberal nightly news programs.
With the new way to get news, through Fox News, Rush, Hannity and many other right wing conspiracy kooks (lol), we can actually get the correct and up to date news. We can keep track of what the left wing liberals nuts are up to do. I will always be glad to turn on my AM radio at 9am Pacific time and hear Rush welcome all of us to his world.

Could someone send the cliff notes of what this MD4BUSH stuff is all about? I am trying to figure out why this story matters to me. I live in MD, and the major concern I have is that the Repub Party leadership in MoCo is virtually non-existant.

There's a Pasadena in Maryland, south of Baltimore City in Anne Arundel County. I'm assuming that's the Pasadena to which WBAL-TV refers. 1 posted on 12/16/2005 7:35:37 PM EST by conservative in nyc
And also a suburb of Annapolis technically as well - which might fit with a Dem active in state politics.

"Could you or someone on this thread explain what the MD4Bush story is about or direct me to a thread that explains it?"I understand it as an inside conspiracy of the Maryland Dem party in collusion with the Washington Post using FRee Republic for criminal purposes.
