College friend went NAVY and Earned his Gold Dolphins next time I saw him the Dolphins were gone and he was wearing Naval Aviators Wings. I asked him what happened. He said on his last cruise as a submariner he learned the laws of physics - what goes up must come down but,... what goes down need not necessarily ever come back up.
I knew some of the combat com guys when I was at Keesler. They were hardcore and gung ho. And boy could they party!
