I use single-serving packs of Folger's. They're pretty good, actually.

I do, too! Actually, Starbucks tastes "burnt" to me. I always have to have a latte, if I want to cover that up.

Starbucks is the best..I've been a fan since 1991.

You've been ripped off for 14 years but the economy thanks you.

But as a free-market capitalist may let the best location, service, and bean win.

A few years back they came up with a Coffee-Bag. Instant coffee in a Tea-Bag type thing. It was really most vile.

If I don't have time to wait for fresh perked coffee I will skip it.

French press (Bodum) is the best and cheapest way to make coffee.

Gone, promoters of the systems say, are the days of a full pot of coffee slowly burning before it's thrown down the sink.

What a pantload.

As long as you are a satisfied customer you haven't.

Starbucks is the Wal-Mart of coffee.  It's mass-market.  Did you happen to see the hour long show on The History Channel on coffee?

It's 'coffee' on a good day, you are paying for convenience, not product.

"Perhaps you should just enjoy your coffee and not make silly statements about what other should or should not people enjoy."

Well, perhaps you're right. But how can hot water passed through charcoal really taste good to someone? =)

I'm typically a tea drinker, and only rarely a coffee drinker, but on one occasion while travelling through NH I encountered a machine which took the Green Mountain single coffee packets. It was decent coffee, and came in a fresh brewed one cup serving size. (No, I don't work for them or anyone related to them.)

Starbucks sells in their baristo brand single mug brew machines too. I think they are $59.

He seems to pop up on the coffee threads, righteously defending Charbucks. I tried to explain what a quality cup of black coffee ought to be like, but it was like talking to a Charbucks employee.

Which, perhaps, I was.

I've been buying Starbucks beans since 1991, when the company was small. The quality of their beans has not changed IMO. Just because they are hugely successful and markets to large market does not mean their product has suffered. Do you think they buy less quality beans now than before? How does that work? And why are you so bothered about what others like or don't like?

And the first part is that the coffee shouldn't truly be black. Unless it actually IS made from burnt rubber. Maybe I just spend too much time over at coffeegeek.com. Must be the snobbery rubbing off. =)

Ok, you can drink burnt effluvia if you wish, but I'm calling BS on outright falsehoods.

Might as well take the caffine pills then suck on an old sock. The effect would be similar. :-D

The problem with Starbucks is how dark they roast their beans.

Try some beans roasted by a smaller local shop. If they know what they are doing, and you use the beans befor they go stale, you will be blown away by the cup of coffee you get.

Both French Press and Vacuum Pot methods make great coffee, but the cleanup is a major pain in the butt, not to mention all the delicates involved.

Ever try cleaning a Vacuum Pot? It's hard enough without the caffeine shakes.
