Plans to 'top' 9/11 strikes

Rome - Three Algerians arrested in an anti-terrorist operation in
southern
Italy are suspected of being linked to a planned new series of attacks
in
the United States, interior minister Giuseppe Pisanu said Friday.
The attacks would have targeted ships, stadiums or railway stations in
a bid
to outdo the September 11 2001 strikes by al-Qaeda in New York and
Washington which killed about 2 700 people, Pisanu said.
The Algerians, suspected of belonging to a cell established by an
al-Qaeda-linked Algerian extremist organisation, the Salafist Group for
Preaching and Combat (GSPC), were named as Achour Rabah, Tartaq Sami
and
Yasmine Bouhrama.
The first two were arrested on Friday in the Salerno area south of
Naples,
and in Curingia, in the southern Calabria region, respectively.
Bouhrama, 32, had been in jail in Naples since November 15 in
connection
with another investigation of the GSPC.
He is believed to be the head of the Salerno cell and to have liaised
with
other cells in Milan, Brescia and Naples.
The three in custody are also alleged to have procured false papers and
funds to finance the GSPC, a hardline fundamentalist movement that
rejects
the Algerian government's attempt to draw a line under years of
Islamist
rebellion.

Granny's note:
Connection of the Italy group to the UK.
Several countries involved in arrests.
I've been out of town for a few days, and busy with the holiday festivites. Just wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, and thanks to those who sent a ping my way wishing the same. :)
HUMMM here is a little more about these yahoo's. I thought Albright took care of these guy's?
Activities
The GSPC continues to conduct operations aimed at Algerian Government and military targets, primarily in rural areas, although civilians are sometimes killed. The Government of Algeria scored major counterterrorism successes against GSPC in 2004, significantly weakening the organization, which also has been plagued with internal divisions. Algerian military forces killed GSPC leader Nabil Sahraoui and one of his top lieutenants, Abbi Abdelaziz, in June 2004 in the mountainous area east of Algiers. In October, the Algerian Government took custody of Abderazak al-Para, who led a GSPC faction that held 32 European tourists hostage in 2003. According to press reporting, some GSPC members in Europe and the Middle East maintain contact with other North African extremists sympathetic to al-Qaida. In late 2003, the GSPC leader issued a communiqué announcing the groups support of a number of jihadist causes and movements, including al-Qaida.

Good link also.
Wishing you very special Christmas blessings.
It looks good to see your name on a posting here.
I just turned on KFI radio, should be KFI.com
A Sgt. from the nam war, just told a Christmas story from
1967, a real, on the battle line report.
He may be Sgt. Dye, I have heard him before, but if you want a real report on real life, try to listen the half hour that has just ended, you won't ever forget it.
I didn't hear any blood, just the details on feeding several
thousand Marines the first meal in weeks that wasn't C-rations and the fact that a real turkey dinner was cooked.
And as he says "the rest of the story", of course some of you men lived it and for that I thank you.
Africa keeps coming up, linked to terrorists.
albright, wasn't smart enough to fix anything...it was all
a game, sending a woman to deal with terror groups, guarenteed to solve nothing, by the clintons.
And that is granny's opinion........LOL
Every good and perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights... James 1:17a. This morning's devotion was beautiful... God's redeeming plan is beautiful. Thank you Heavenly Father for this day that we are celebrating. DaveyCrockett, Thanks for posting this daily devotion from Dr. Stanley.
Merry Christmas. I hope it has been a wonderful day for you and your family.
Looking through your other posts now....

China develops first live vaccine against bird flu
By Zhao Huanxin (China Daily)
Updated: 2005-12-26 05:27
Chinese scientists have produced the world's first live vaccine against bird flu and Newcastle disease - two killer infections for poultry, the Ministry of Agriculture has announced.
The recombinant bivalent vaccine, developed by the Harbin Veterinary Research Institute, will be a great boost to prevention and control of the two epidemics in China as well as in the world, Chief Veterinary Officer Jia Youling told a press conference in Beijing on Saturday.
In addition to injection, the vaccine can be administered orally, nasally or by spraying, said Jia, also chief of the ministry's Veterinary Bureau.
The mass-application techniques can not only significantly reduce labour costs, but also increase immunity among fowls, Jia said.
The shot will also be very inexpensive, as its production cost is only one-fifth of the inactivated vaccines available on the market, he said.
While most people are familiar with bird flu, Newcastle infections are endemic to many countries. The latter is also a highly-contagious viral disease affecting both domestic poultry and wild birds, experts said, adding that chickens are the most susceptible.
In September, Newcastle outbreaks killed at least 56,700 chicken on the Chinese mainland, according to the latest veterinary bulletin published by the ministry in October.
Chinese scientists at the Harbin institute in Northeast China's Heilongjiang Province spent four years to develop the powerful antidote to both Newcastle and bird flu, according to Jia.
Employing a technique called reverse genetics, the vaccine uses an attenuated Newcastle vaccine strain LaSota as a vector, according to Bu Zhigao, a chief scientist of the project.
Bu said experiments showed the vaccine can also protect mammals, such as mice, from bird flu.
Research and production techniques will provide reference for developing new vaccines for human infections of bird flu, Jia said.
The ministry expedited the examination and approval process of the new vaccine after the efficacy and security of the vaccine were satisfactorily proved.
Mass-production of the new vaccine was approved on December 23, and by the end of this month, 1 billion shots would have been produced, he said.
The vaccine will be used from the beginning of next year alongside other vaccines, he said.
Intensive vaccination efforts have paid dividends in China's fight against the fatal H5N1 strain of the bird flu virus.
By mid-December, 6.85 billion domestic birds had been vaccinated, including more than 5 billion since October, Jia said earlier.
As a result, the country has reported only one case of bird flu outbreak this month.
China reported six human cases of bird flu this year, involving two fatalities, and 31 outbreaks among poultry.
By last Thursday, 30 out of 31 outbreak sites had been lifted out of epidemic isolation, according to ministry sources.
Figures on the latest Newcastle disease toll were not immediately available.
In a related development, the State Forestry Administration said on Saturday that it would examine the performance of the monitoring stations for wild-animal epidemic diseases across the country.
The checks, lasting till February 20, will ensure that the 150 national stations and 402 provincial stations have contingency plans and adequate information reporting mechanism, according to deputy director Zhao Xuemin.

2 dead, about 30 injured in Japan's train derailment
Two women died and about 30 others were injured when an express train heading to Niigata derailed and partly toppled on its side Sunday night in Shonai, Yamagata Prefecture, according to police, hospitals and officials of East Japan Railway Co.
The women, one of whom was in her 30s, were among five people trapped inside the first train car which derailed. One of the other three was rescued, police and firefighters said.
The front five cars of the six-car train Inaho No. 14 derailed and three of them toppled onto their left side at around 7:15 p.m. between Sagoshi and Kita-Amarume stations on JR East's Uetsu Line, the train operator said.
The derailment is believed to have occurred shortly after the express train had been exposed to strong winds while crossing a bridge over a river, officials of the Niigata branch of the railway operator said.
A severe snowstorm warning has been issued in the area and a maximum wind speed of 77.76 kilometers per hour was registered shortly before the derailment in the city of Sakata, Yamagata Prefecture, which is about 6 km from the accident site, the Yamagata Meteorological Observatory said.
The train from Akita derailed shortly after it had crossed the bridge over the Mogami River, according to officials of the railway operator.
JR East said there was a report that the train driver applied manual brakes after hearing an unusual sound. The train driver has been confirmed alive, the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Ministry said.
Due to the snow, the train had been more than one hour behind schedule and had left Sakai station, its previous stop, at 7:08 p.m., JR East said.
A witness said one of the train cars plunged into a hut.
The land ministry decided to dispatch Monday a member of the Aircraft and Railway Accidents Investigation Committee and four investigators.
Earlier this year, on April 25, a West Japan Railway Co. commuter train derailed in Amagasaki, Hyogo Prefecture, killing 107 people and injuring 555 because of speeding by the train driver who also died in the accident.

Christmas blessings to everyone!
Did anyone switch to KFI.com radio, the last hour was an interview with an Air Force Intel man, my reception kept getting drowned out by a mexican station.
The Guest, said several good things about what we have done in Iraq, he has been there on 50 trips.
Capt. Dye's ending story was priceless. Yep, he got his promotions.
On Christmas Day, 1982 Capt. Dye, was the Officer of the Day, in Lebanon,
Beriut, they had been called there to keep peace and patrol the streets.
His driver was a young Sgt, with a bit of a mouthy problem.
One of the parts of the job, was the fact that he had a phone that was a direct line to the Pentagon.
The Pentagon phone rang, the Sgt. answered it in a proper
manner, then he hears "OK, ENOUGH, who is this really?"
"right Ronnie, thanks for calling, now who is this?" this the Sgt. asked several more times.
Capt Dye, started to pay attention, took the phone, and it was President Ronald Reagan, who had called to wish them a
Merry Christmas, in person.
President Reagan said to Capt. Dye, "I like that young Sgt, you see that he does not get in any trouble!".........
Of course, you needed to hear it in Capt. Dye's voice, a full roar of a Marine voice, even when telling a story that still held him in awe, 23 years after he talked to President
Reagan.
Merry Christmas every one. God bless all.
Thank you! As soon as I figure out how to post a picture, you'll be getting that cigar (laughing).
