Judge Ito's wife, a witness in the trial, was assigned to the LAPD Internal Affairs bureau and served as the LAPD liason to the DEA. Coincidentally, one of Judge Ito's bailiffs was shot to death during the trial, and a private detective consulting to the defense team on DNA evidence was also gunned down.
Whether or not *we spy on our own people* is largely dependent on how close their ties to the then-prominent Hererra drug cartel they are....
