The parent company of Carl's Jr. burger chain has agreed to pay $255,000 to settle claims that a shift manager at an Elk Grove restaurant told co-workers that he had "white pride," used racial epithets and flashed white power signs while on the job, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission announced Wednesday. The harassment charges were initially filed by an 18-year-old African American woman, Michal Harris, who worked at the local restaurant in 2001. The EEOC then brought suit on behalf of other minority workers.

Hmmmm. Been in more than one Carl's Jr. and don't recall any of this. Must have been their lawyers said it was cheaper to make a payoff than to figure it out.

But wearing a shirt that says "It's a Black Thing, You Wouldn't Understand" or a Marcus Garvey T-Shirt is just free speech.

All of the above can be construed as hate speech depending on the beholder. I personally am offended but no one deserves $255K (or a portion left by the lawyers) because of it. EVER.

It's a lowered fist, knuckles under.

What about FUBU ... which means "For Us, By Us" referring to the black owners of the FUBU company making clothes for their fellow blacks.

I actually know a guy who got in trouble back when every black teen was wearing the "It's a Black Thing, You Wouldn't Understand" t-shirts.

He made up a few t-shirts that had pictures of a guy reading a book, another guy working at some engineering job, a dad playing with his family, etc. and the caption "It's A White Thing, You Wouldn't Understand."

He was told to take the shirt off or lose his job.

He probably was/is a racist but it only works one way. Gutless companies settle because being a declared racist is worse than being a rapist and a billion dollar settlement is possible, especially in Calpukafornicatia. Carl's should send a copy to every employee stating that ANY employee that engages in this kind of behavior, regardless of race, will be fired. Talk about racist! Treating blacks the same as whites, wow, racist racist racist. Is it any wonder that Hispanics, who are willing to do any job, are taking all the jobs reserved for dropouts.

To me the most amazing thing is that a government agency felt the need to pile on and grow this from one unhappy woman to, literally, a federal case. Amazing.

I defend these cases. I've seen worse. The EEOC is vicious and unamerican. It is supposedly an unbiased agency, but the petty bureaucrats that run it lie and distort the facts and make federal cases out of stupid little things. They bring the weight of the federal government down on employers just trying to run a business.

THE EEOC IS AN ENEMY AGENCY INSIDE OUR GOVERNMENT!

Let this hypersensitive bitch sue Carl Jr.'s on her own dime. WTF is our government spending a fortune on lawyers on behalf of individuals to rape businesses?

Not to excuse the racist moron but had the manager been a black racist and fired by Carl's he could have sued and gotten the same result.

That's the way liberal agencies work. Pile on the weak and let the biggies go. IRS and ALL agencies stick it to the soft targets and let the hard targets requiring work go. They take a walk, but the stats show a hit. Spend 10,000 bucks to collect 250 from a taxpayer but let millions go because it requires work. Jump on Carls's for an employee's action but let a Fortune 500 compand default on pensions. Shameful.
