Republicans Decry Language On Guest Worker Program Added To Bill

The last-minute addition of language that expresses congressional support for a guest worker program into the immigration bill headed for the House floor Thursday has a group of Republican members up in arms.

For months, House GOP leaders have said they plan to go to the floor with an immigration bill that deals with border security and doesn't include the kind of temporary guest worker program that many Senate Republicans and the White House have been calling for.

But early Wednesday, House staffers learned that a one-paragraph section discussing the need for foreign workers to help the U.S. economy was being added to the bill. It was being included as part of a wide-ranging amendment by the bill's author, Judiciary Committee Chairman James Sensenbrenner, R-Wis.

Watch C-Span now and see how and if this issue is handled. It is now 3.00 pm mtn time. Check it out folks. The OBL in the House is crawling out of the woodwork and are making statements very similar to those made by the OBL here. It is live entertainment.

Good news. The Flake language encouraging a guest worker program has been removed from the bill. This is a great victory for those who want to see secure borders first before even considering that approach.

Yup I would imagine Tancredo, Hayworth, Lamar Smith and many others fought hard to get that out and succeeded. Good for them and America.

The GOP needs to dump Sensenbrenner. He is as useful as teats on a boar. A Democrat would vote just about the same way he does, so you just as well have the real thing.

He does favor a guest worker program, I just hope that it doesn't turn out to be the kind Bush wants because that would mean essentially open borders in all but name and the end of the American nation as we know it.

Responding with a very loud "whistle". Major victory and it sets a certain precedent. Flake is a flake.

"The bill is being held hostage *not* by the Democrats, but by registered republicans."

AKA RINOS.

The "leadership" starts at the top with George W. Bush.

Who can deny the man has betrayed obvious U.S. sovereignty issues pure and simple.

I was watching cspan2 today and there were Democrats from the House (including Napolitano, Jackson-Lee, Guitterez) complaining about how immigrants are going to be treated like criminals because of the new legislation.

The text of the legislation is not available at the House website yet, but I did find the roll call vote for it.

12-15-2005
BILL TITLE: Providing for the consideration of H.R. 4437, Border Protection, Antiterrorism, and Illegal Immigration Control Act
http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2005/roll636.xml
passed by a vote of 220 to 206; 7 Republicans voted NAY, 1 Democrat voted YEA

Just caught it. Thanks.

Nevertheless, we have an over abundance of RINOs just waiting to sneak something in and curry favor with the White House.

Remain alert.

The democrats want nothing but amnesty and are giving us the same talking points about the need for a "comprehensive" immigration reform similar to what many GOP Senators like McCain are saying. Maybe we could invite John to join those he's more comfortable with.
