CENTER WILL NOT HOLD FOR HILLARY (don't ever, ever underestimate Hillary)
NY POST ^ | December 15, 2005 | DEBORAH ORIN

Posted on 12/15/2005 6:11:16 AM PST by Liz

If Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton really wants to run for president, it looks as if she needs a new strategy, because her tortured triangulation is now backfiring so badly that even draft-Hillary fans are mad at her.

In fact, draft-Hillary chief Bob Kunst —who broadcast the first pro-Hillary TV ads of the 2008 cycle — is so upset that he's mulling new ads to accuse triangulation champ Bill Clinton of betraying his wife politically.

Bill Clinton invented triangulation — trying to grab the center and paint foes on both sides as extremists.

It was great for him in the 1990s, when there was a political center, but today is an era of polarization.

The trouble began when Sen. Clinton tried to straddle the center on Iraq with a letter that stood by her pro-war vote but blamed President Bush for the war. Big problem: There is no center on Iraq.............

Things really heated up when The Post's Ian Bishop revealed that Sen. Clinton was trying a similar grab-the-center strategy on flag-burning as the sole co-sponsor of a bill to ban it — but not by constitutional amendment.

And she inspired anti-Hillary editorials across the country. "Bill's position on trying to get her to be centrist is not relevant since 9/11.

Dear, dear Deborah, you sorely underestimate the Clintons predilection for buying votes from the least likely suspects.

Case in point: as a US Senate candidate, Hillary ran as own true liberal self----radical feminist, pro-abortion, pro-gay rights.

Yet she managed to get 1200 votes from upstate orthodox religious who declare their opposition to everything Hillary stands for.

How'd she do it?

Bill cravenly used the presidential pardon pen to reduce the sentences of four orthodox Hasidic who had looted Pell grants of millions of dollars.

Hillary has a thousand such tricks up her sleeve, and will use every one of them, when necessary.

Not suggesting she will be elected----just that she'll try everything and anything to get back into the WH.

She may try, but I'd be suprised if she even gets the democratic nomination. She is horrid on the campaign stump and sounds shrill and utterly ignorant.

She also has access to a very large and apparently informative set of FBI files.

The media hagiography on HRC for the next 3 years will be one long BARF alert.

Not I. If she was running for president of the NE, she might have a chance.

She is terrible on the campaign trail.

I don't think a 50 state "listening tour" will work in a presidential run. But you know that the MSM will try to run cover for her.

LOL. Very true. But I agree with Rush on this. The Clinton's have NEVER been popular. Slick never won a majority. His party was decimated during his terms. They suck, and the majority of AMericans know it.

Triangulation probably won't work for her, but a return to the Left, continued bribery of the type you specified, and an appeal to the "peace mom" spirit latent among moderate and Republican women might get her over the top. The "first woman President" card will be huge in her favor - the media won't be able to stop gushing about her, and the cattle futures were a long time ago.

That's absolutely true.

However, if she runs, she will probably end up losing. However, we can't assume she will, we'll have a tough fight to defeat Her Heinous.

I agree with you. Let us not fall into 'Bush trap'. That is, people keep misunderestimating him and later have to pay the price for it.

She will get 100% cooperation from the MSM but the 7-by-24 glare of a presidential campaign will reveal her for the wannabe socialist dictator she is!

The MSM will try. Just as they are trying mightily to sabotage our success in Iraq. History has a way of steamrolling inconsequential people.

Bill Clinton invented triangulation — trying to grab the center and paint foes on both sides as extremists. It was great for him in the 1990s, when there was a political center, but today is an era of polarization.

Ross Perot was great for him. The rest was icing on the cake.
