Yeah, that's in no way a slight against McNabb. Limbaugh's comment was on the media overhyping McNabb, who at the time was very mediocre in terms of overall stats and ranking. Limbaugh said he thinks McNabb is a good quarterback, it's just that the media was making him out to be a legend that he isn't.

Even people on FR took his comments the wrong way? Wow.

Those hyping him do not admit they were hyping him. And see that criticism as motivated by a desire to slight McNabb, to run him down. For much the same PC reasons they want to run him up, inverted. It is not complicated and Rush should have seen how it would sound. Probably did, even, but wanted to say it anyway, because he thought it. It is, however, why he got fired. He was labeled as racist for not buying the puffery. Where you get anybody on FR also taking it that way, however, is a mystery.
