I respectfully disagree.
Yes, I think everybody deserves the benefit of the doubt.
I disagree. Some don't. All things need to be considered. But in an example with limited information and no further insights, for purposes of discussion, that's fair.
Tookie Williams didn't deserve any benefits-of-the-doubt. Neither does Saddam Hussein. Nor do others depending upon what those doubts are and what the possible consequences of those extending such doubts would be.
To clarify that last one, let's assume a three-time child molester is up for parole after 10 years and says he's clean now. That person should not be extended any benefit of the doubt. The results/consequences of doing so can easily be, and likely will be, the destruction of more lives.
I also agree that if there is no doubt, there should be swift consequences.
