WASHINGTON // The nomination of Maryland Republican Ellen R. Sauerbrey to a top State Department post has stalled in a Senate committee and won't be dealt with until next year unless President Bush acts to bypass Congress and give her the job on a temporary basis. The Senate Foreign Relations Committee put off a planned vote on Sauerbrey early last month at the request of Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer of California, a Sauerbrey critic. What was supposed to be a brief delay could stretch well into next year because the committee won't consider the nomination this week and the Senate isn't scheduled to resume its work until the middle of January.
Bush nominated Sauerbrey -- who spent 16 years in the Maryland House of Delegates and was twice the Republican nominee for governor -- in early September to be assistant secretary of state for the Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration.
Sauerbrey, 68, is the U.S. envoy to the U.N. Commission on the Status of Women. After her nomination was announced, a number of nonprofit groups that work with refugees criticized Bush's choice, questioning Sauerbrey's credentials.
At her confirmation hearing in October, several Democratic senators, including Boxer and Maryland Sen. Paul S. Sarbanes, raised concerns about whether Sauerbrey was right for the position, which oversees an annual budget of more than $1 billion and is a key international voice for the administration on refugee and population issues.
The day the committee was supposed to vote on the nomination, Boxer asked for the delay, saying she needed more time to consider Sauerbrey's record.

Just the standard OBSTRUCTION from one of the well-known, mindless losers of the far left.
Typical Democrat tactic...delay, delay, delay. It's time for President Bush to bust this with recess appoint, recess appoint, recess appoint. And then get on the Senate Majority's butt to put the minority in its place!
Baloney.
I've known Ellen Sauerbrey for almost 20 years. There's no question about her credentials.
It's her politics (she' not a lesbian-feminazi) that they don't like.
Recess appointment, with an explanation why...just like the President did with John Bolton.
Enough with this "reaching across the aisle" crap. If I wanted Democratic influence in the executive branch, I would have voted for a Democrat (and given their currrent state, I'd rather get a hot poker enema).
Barbara Boxer was the empty head that put the hold on Bolton, to the best of my memory.
"the request of Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer of California, a Sauerbrey critic. "
well i like Sauerbrey already - if Boxer is a critic she must be good
Enough with this "reaching across the aisle" crap.

That what I said when Bush first uttered these words in 2000. I knew it was crap then, and it will be foreever.
That's right. Just post the same old tired Hate Bush rant as usual. Never mind the fact that the Senate, a coequal branch of the Federal Government, set its OWN rules which the President can do NOTHING about. Just another excuse to rant at Bush meanwhile the Whine All The Time Choir seems curiously unable to actually hold the Senate accountable for the Senate's actions. Why are you all so afraid of actually putting the blame where it belongs?
That's right. Just post the same old tired Hate Bush rant as usual.

Wake up. This is not rant -- IT IS FACT. From the start he kept "extending his hand across the aisle" and it has been bitten and used as toilet paper by the rotten libs.
Get wise. It is all fact.
(If the Demo/Commies can get away with trotting out that falsehood against Republicans, then turnabout is only fair play)...
How stupid is Boxer that she can't even make up her mind about something as trivial as this, and needs more time to figure it out?
Of course, she isn't REALLY considering her record more, she will vote against her whenever it comes up for a vote, and this is just a lie she tells.
Like how the democrats lied about Estrada, saying they needed more information to know how to vote, when they all knew they were going to vote no. .
"Boxer asked for the delay, saying she needed more time to consider Sauerbrey's record."
More time won't do any good. Boxer will still be unable to comprehend it. She'll have to be told by her LA's how to vote.
