Does success make women less marriageableto men? In some cases, the answer is yes: Most women like to "marry up," and that is harder to do if a woman is on the top floor of her profession.
But a bigger problem simply may lie in successful women's lack of planning for marriage, said Carrie Lukas, director of policy at the Independent Women's Forum.
Most women want a loving husband and children, Mrs. Lukas said. If they know that is what they want,"then theyshould take that goal as seriously as their goal to reach law partner by age 35."
NewYork Times columnist Maureen Dowd has bemoaned the relationship woes of"uppity alpha" females.

****The unfairness is everywhere, Miss Dowd writes. She cites a University of Michigan study that suggests commitment-minded men prefer women with subordinate jobs -- secretary or personal assistant -- over women who are supervisors. Why? Because men think women in higher-status jobs are more likely to be independent and cheat on them, a study co-author told Miss Dowd.
No Maureen. We like women who actually smile every once in a while!

Dowd needs a brain transplant, about ten face lifts, and alot of hormone shots. Then she should retire.

I can't say that this is the rule in my life. By the time I finish school, my residency, and fellowship, my earning power will be about 6-7 times what my husband's would be if he were to continue working instead of staying home with the children (when we have them). Neither one of us has a problem with it. Why? Because we each respect what the other does. And we don't see ourselves as being in competition with each other. We're working toward a common goal, which is a prosperous family.
Perhaps if Ms. Dowd and others of her ilk would have an easier time finding husbands if they weren't such shrews.

Ouch!!!! Well the good part is that I'll turn 45 during the baseball season so it won't be so bad. LOL!

If Maureen Dowd is looking for a man who makes more money than she does, there are plenty. If she's looking for a man who is smarter than she is, there are even more. An of-a-certain-age female writer of sophomoric columns for a long-past-its-prime broadsheet oughtn't to be so choosy.

Ms. Dowd should know by now that no man buys the cow when he can get the milk for free.

MoDo is so right, of course. I mean, what kind of idiots are we men to not want to spend the rest of our lives with a nasty, bitter old harridan who will blame us for every ill in the world?
Mo Dowd is Helen Thomas with a few fewer miles on the clock. And she would probably consider that to be a high compliment!

The funny thing about that pic is that MoDo probably told everyone she showed it to "Look at this, isn't it hilarious?" as a defensive move in case they laughed. But she REALLY wanted them to say "Wow, you look HOT!" and you know she was thinking that during the shoot.
Instead she looks like Rene Russo's maiden aunt. I mean, that's a REALLY bad photo.
