Please do bring the cool-aid, I am not drinking it. Maybe in a galaxy far far far away will we find those weapons of mass destruction, but not in the sands of Iraq. I was in the military during the buildup to the war, and it so naive to believe anything could have stop our march to war,oh, short of Saddam putting a bullet in his brain. There was various levels, including advanced planing, in the works before the UN or Congress approved the invasion. The psychological and informational warfare started years before. So, don't tell me anything could have stopped that war, you would be the original cool-aid drinker if you did. BUT AGAIN, IT IS A MOOT POINT NOW, WE HAVE TO WIN THIS THING NOW.

I think if we had focused on Afghanistan and not Iraq. Bin Laden would be sings with the virgins right now, and whole lot of Iraqis would still be alive. Not blaming the US here, it was only an unintended and sad result of the war. The kind of thing that happens in war.

I think strictly on a moral level it was a good idea to take out Saddam, but geopolitics isn't a moral game. Note, I am not saying that the end result might be something spectacular, namely democracy across the Muslim world. I would celebrate that outcome from the highest mountain. However, Iraq during Saddam wasn't swimming with terrorists and there was good chance his government would have fallen anyway. We will never know if would have.

The Islamofascists have been mounting ever-bolder attacks against the west for 35 years. It escalated tragically on 9-11.

At this point - the world changes. There is no more status quo, no kicking the can down the road.

Al Qiaeda grew bolder and continued waging war and forming alliances. Saddam supported terrorists and had always been a threat to the region.

We will never know, perhaps the whole state would have fallen apart. Those questions and others are best left to historians to debate. One thing is for sure, Saddam was never keen on sharing power. So, It is my guess that if he did have dealing with terrorists it was only on the margins because these jihadist are not secular like he was. They would have interest in undermining such governments through out the region.

You have just said the magic words that helped to start the war. That there is an implication that Saddam was connected to 9/11, and there is no proof or evidence to back that assumption up. Even the most ardent supporters of the war have discounted that now.

Yes, he did violate UN sanctions for 12 years, but that was the disconnection I couldn't never understand. All he had to is play by rules and he could have keep America at bay, but cheat and cheat he did. I am not a psychiatrist and can't understand the insane machinations Saddam was going through, and perhaps it was all a rouse. He got rid of the weapons in early 90s and was using the ambiguity to instill fear through out the region. Whatever the case may have been the facts are; the UN inspected, the Army WMD team search for more than a year, and they found nothing.

You may claim it's an ivory tower debate, but I am disagreeing with your original premises: that the President "rushed" to war with Saddam.

You call it "rushing" to war, 12 years into Saddam's continued, and persistent, UN violations and murders. I call that great patience with a tyrannical dictator and murdered of thousands of Kurds.

Who has claimed that the war against terrorists, or any strategy to defeat them, would end when Bush leaves office? Certainly, he NEVER claimed any such thing. In fact, his claims have contradicted that.

...But, did he cheer at the outcome of the buildings coming down, at the Pentagon up in flames, watching his enemy being attacked? You bet he celebrated.

Read my previous posts. Remember, Al Qaieda had declared war on the West. Whose side do you think Saddam would have supported? The Americans...Give me a break, and wake up. This is a post-9-11 world.

No it isn't a post 9/11 world, the struggle against terrorism and islamofacism is an old struggle, a clash between the Christian and the Muslim world that goes back to 8th Century. What as soon as we were hit a realization came over us, if that is the case then we are deluded. I grew up with acts Islamic terror splashed across the TV screen, Beirut, Aklie Largo, PanAm 103 and many more. This is the American disease, unless it affects us directly we don't have stake in it. However, if has been a change it has certainly waned since 9/11.

The creation of the so called post 9/11 is a creation of both the Republicans and the Democrats as well design to deflect attention from inattention payed to Terrorism during the cold war and after.
