"This is mainly because of unattractive movies that don't appeal to young male audiences, the cost of movie tickets, parking, the shrinking window a movie's theatrical and DVD releases.

Hate to break it to you Hollywood, but most of the young male audiences that you seek, are not gonna run out to see two gay cowboys either. No matter how many awards you nominate it for.

I used to go to movies to be entertained. Now, I have a hard time going to movies when I have to constantly be suspicious of what I am watching. As I watch the film, I find myself asking, "Where is the political message?" I know that not every movie has a hidden message, but Hollywood is so damn liberal that I just distrust anything it produces. Moreover, I hate to think that I am helping to support the Hollywood left, which really means indirectly helping to support Moron.org, the democrat party, or some other left wing kook organization.

#1. Home Theater. Far and away the number one reason. Relatively cheap Surround Sound and popular big screen and projection systems close the gap with the theater experience.

#2. High ticket prices make it a gamble. If you hate the movie, you're out $20 and two hours plus drive/parking time.

#3. Uncertainty and hassle. Getting everyone ready to go out, driving thru traffic, finding parking and buying a ticket is just too big a problem, with potential glitches all along the way.

I wonder if somebody can help me with a question. The press, as in this article, is always talking about "Hollywood" as if it is a single entity affected by total ticket sales.

It's not, it's a bunch of studios, each of which can make money in a bad year for "the industry" or lose money in a good year, depending on its own productions and how they are received.

I can understand theater owners caring about total ticket sales, but why should an individual studio give a hoot?

I never see people talking about total car sales for the year, but rather about how GM or Ford is doing.

I don't get it.

Not surprised the homo's made sure this movie about homosexual cowboys (sorry there's nothing gay about homo's) pushed this particular movie and will be awarded everything. The homo's continue to work to make others think this is just another lifestyle. Instead of what it is, a couple of sickos who needs lots of prayers and deliverance.

Who the hell wants to see a movie about the Crusades that glorifies the Muslims and demonizes Christians?

Who the hell wants to see a movie named "Cinderella Man"? That's enough to turn people off before they even know what it's about.

Who wants to see a movie about Alexander the Great as a pansy?

Who wants to see a movie starring a bunch of whining leftists who attack the President for defending our country?

Well, Whaaaa! I don't go to movies and saw my last 2 in theater movies long ago (The Patriot and Saving Private Ryan). When they decide to make something I want to see, and the actors can keep their yaps shut about their political agendas, I may reconsider.

Decided to take the plunge and rent a DVD the other night. Kingdom of Heaven. All I could do was get pi##ed off at that crap.

I wish they could make some good military movies like they used to during WWII. When will they realize that US patriotism will sell?

I thought the same thing. They are shooting themselves in the foot with this garbage they produce.

Thank you millee, for stating the obvious.

That goes for suicidal lesbian boxers, gay anything and delusional Global Warming fantasies.

Oh yes, also lose the Saudi-funded sandmaggot propaganda films like "Syriana", or whatever that abortion is named.

I think it is more about the sheer VOLUME of movies that are produced.

It is astounding how many films get released each week, considering that most of them are not worth the money spent to watch them.

It is hard to decide which movie to go to, and then to finance more than one.

It is the combination of things, mostly though there is plenty of things that keep people entertained. One of which is apparently guys do not have to take girls on dates to get laid now. Sounds crass but it is true. There goes 2 tickets right there.

Even a much-hyped giant gorilla, a geisha and a schoolboy magician won't be able to create a happy ending at the US box office, as Hollywood ends its most disappointing year in nearly two decades.

Don't worry. The Bareback Cowboys will save the day.

audiences, dazzled by their entertainment choices and disappointed by the mediocre films on offer, turned away from the cinema in droves.

Wrong. Hollywood can blame it on the trash it is putting out at the box office and Hollyweird's actors, actresses, singers, songwriters, directors, and producers, the bulk of whom are communists/socialists/liberals, who are anti-God, anti-morals, anti-values, anti-American, anti-military, anti-patriotic, anti-conservative, anti-family, pro-homosexual, and in favor of life for murderers but in favor of death for innocents.

It's called: boycotting.

To properly understand the entertainment industry, it should be evaluated in the whole. Like the automotive (or any other) industry, certain manufacturers/sectors may perform quite well while others become laggards.

The problem for the movie studios is two-fold: the movie genre is old - that's why they're constantly remaking old titles. Imgaine how fresh and interesting movies must have been the 1st time around in the 20s & 30s. In addtion, there are many other entertainment options to choose from, including well-known factors like computer-games, and also less obvous elements such as sports & travel.

Taken as a whole, entertainment is booming; looking at a certain sector like movies just means that perhaps its time has past.

I'd like to know just who is doing the judging and what sort of criteria they are using. From what I can tell, these "awards" are much ado about absolutely nothing. Sort of like a bunch of art-snobs sitting around giving each other awards and expecting Joe Consumer to give a damn on way or the other.

In addition, Hollywood faces a major external threat: runaway production costs, the growing trend of movie producers to shoot in places such as Canada, Australia and New Zealand to cash in on much lower staff and production charges.

California/Hollywood can still be the porn capital of the world, though, even after all of the mass-market productions have left for cheaper ground. It's about all they're good for anyway.

Poor LA. If they made movies which did not hate most of America, and other junk, then just maybe people would go to see them.

Plummeting 2005 box office sparks Hollywood crisis

Keep trying to get murders off, keep sticking up for losers, keep bashing the President when he's a Republican, keep saying clinton is the greatest, keep saying the election was a selection, keep denying 4 more years, keep saying you'll move to another country if the democrat loses, keep Michael Moore, Ed Anser, and Michael Jackson as your heroes...... You'll keep spiraling yourselves into the ground.

I haven't been to a theater since 1989 and don't plan going anytime soon. I will NOT support the Hollywood types. Also, I don't rent movies of any kind, no VCR or DVD player. If a movie comes on the "teeve" that I want to see, then I will watch it but not on any of the pay channels.
