Does that mean the state is paying for this

That's right. Virgin will lease it for a while.

Landing fees should pay the rest. Oh, sure.

CA Governor: We have a slutty spaceport.

NV Oregon: Oh yeah? Well, we have three or four airports that are real hosebags.

So this is a quarter billion dollar tax payer funded project subsidizing a British company and whether the state gets paid back depends on the success of commercial spaceflight.

Don't think I would have voted for that.

Where is it going to be built? Roswell?

Near White Sands.

Check post 18. Still the best line of the thread.

Oh, right.

Roswell already has a crash on its record.

White Sands is much better for a business that should mushroom.

They needed a spaceport anyway. A lot of business should spring up around it if the zoning statues allow. Not all tourists will be flying, most of the business--hotels, restaurants, tours--will cater to the other 90%. They'll probably get tourists from all over the world. All in all they might have a major attraction to commerce. Could do worse.

Well they have to get back ahead of all of those dead islamofascists, who are standing around outside the Pearly Gates in Purgatory waiting, doing what horny dead Jihadies do when they have to wait an eternity for their 72 virgins to show up.

Of course our dead Marines are standing guard, laughing to themselves, knowing that when their watch shift change comes, they will be enjoying what the Jihadies never ever will. ;)

Adventurer ...

Jason went after the Golden Fleece.

Odysseus was just trying to get home to his beautiful wife.

Columbus wanted to find a better route to India.

Amundsen was trying to reach the South Pole.

If I want to find a cow-pattie, I don't have to go on some great adventure.
