The Catholic Church is doomed because it has forgotten God's teachings. Including the ones where God commands human beings to put murderers to death.

It doesn't sound like anyone in power in Europe acually said anything. Just the usual crackpot Anti-americanism from the lunatic fringe.

Thanks, Laz! Another great pic!

I'm sure our European "allies" would be all for a massive deportation of Bloods and Crips to their countries.

For good measure, and to show that we are diverse, we could also send 'em a few Hispanic and Skinhead gang members.

I don't mean to sound rude here, and no disrespect for the Cardinal... but if it wasn't for the death penalty, we would never have been saved. Just a little something to chew on.

“We know the death penalty doesn’t resolve anything,” Cardinal Renato Martino said.

You let me know when Tookie commits another crime, mmkay Cardinal?

This is rich. Europe is responsible for the murder of over six million people because of ethnicity, religion and sexual orientation but they complain when a State carries out a LEGAL sentence because a murderer's sentence is carried out?

Please.

Europe must keep its outrage to itself and let the United States uphold the will of the people.

Tookie got a fair trial and spent over 20 years fighting off his death sentence. Something his victims were unable to do, by the way.

Those six million souls Europe is responsible for taking -- committed no crimes. They were murdered, plain and simple.

Nice try.

At the Vatican, Pope Benedict XVI's top official for justice matters denounced the death penalty for going against redemption and human dignity.

The head of the Roman church needs to read and obey the Holy Word of G-d.

Genesis 9:6 "Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made man".

Ludicrous. And convenient -- another opportunity for America bashing at the next chi chi cocktail party.

Powerful reply.

(However, I'd also point out that they threw some rather cruel and unusual punishment at Him along the way, and that's not something I'd like us to emulate.)

Yeah yeah yeah...........tell 'em to blow out their collective arses.

Let's let a Tookie come to their charming little hamlet and cold-bloodedly shoot four innocent people to death during robberies. Then, and only then, can they decide what (and WHO) is truly "barbaric" in this story.

The death penalty has just ensured that Williams will never murder another innocent person and it saw justice done to the murdered deceased. Apparently the moral ends the death penalty serves is beneath the notice of an official of the Roman Curia. Then again what can you expect from a bureaucrat?

Capital punishment is illegal throughout the European Union, and many Europeans consider state-sponsored executions to be barbaric.

Execution for murder is one sign of a civilized society. It is telling that Europe no longer supports it.
