Once again we have proof that there are vast energy resources available that we don't know about. All we need is freedom and market forces to tap into them.
We don't have to pacify Islamofacist dictators or communist despots to get energy. It's right here in Oklahoma!

It would be fortuitous if an easily accessible reservoir of abiotic oil was discovered as a result of this.
It would be even more interesting if the reservoir turned out to be huge.

"We've ruled out the probables, and now we're into the unprobables," he said. "We've never seen one like this before, one that covers such a large area. It's another animal." Too bad these guys aren't studying "Global Warming" or they'd know everything there is to know........

"If people don't feel safe at their homes, we have a place for them to go," said Kingfisher Emergency Management Director Steve Loftis. As of Monday afternoon, no one had used the provided comfort station.yuk, yuk. At first, I thought "a place for them to go" meant an emergency shelter or evacuation center. On second thought, I guess it really is an evacuation center.

I wonder if FEMA will put them up in five star hotels and make sure they're supplied with booze, drugs and hookers. Oh, scratch that, these are those bigoted self reliant red state types.
Never mind.

What exactly is preventing people from tapping this resource? The libs haven't banned drilling in Oklahoma, have they?

Maybe a careless fisherman accidentally dropped a burrito into the Winter Camp Creek.

Is that usually the case? Does presence of natural gas usually portend good chances of discovering oil?

Sounds like a bad case of sandworms.

I don't see any indication that they're being prevented from tapping into it. In fact, Oklahoma is rather energy friendy since they sit atop the Hugoton Gas Field along with Texas, Colorado and Kansas.
My overall point is that the geysers are in Kingfisher. That's about 200 miles east of the known field.

I keep picturing the mud pits in Yellowstone when reading this. Hope it doesn't smell as bad as that!

Don't mean to get all George Nory on this but could it be that this is a precursor to a quake on the "New Madrid" fault?
BTW Anyone remember Firesign Theater's "Everything You Know is Wrong" Done back in the 70's is a perfect parody of Coast to Coast AM.

Actually, natural gas is also recovered and sold. I have some land that produces about 300/month in royalties from natural gas. With the recent spike in natural gas prices and winter coming, I hope someone caps this well asap.

I like the theory of a leaking salt dome.
Salt domes are commonly used to store CNG.

Probably not. That's too far away:
FYI Oklahoma is West of Arkansas. ;-)

Is that usually the case? Does presence of natural gas usually portend good chances of discovering oil? From what I've gathered, where there's oil, there's natural gas. The ratio of oil and natural gas differs from reservoir to reservoir, so I understand, but the two are usually present together.
