I am actually against the death penalty for pragmatic reasons (though not against killin' when someone is desperately begging for it), but I have a really hard time feeling sorry for a fella who was very obviously a sociopath through and through. If you are going to have a death penalty, it should be reserved for people like him.
If you are to have a death penalty, it should be speedily administered within the context of making damn sure you have the right man; then, filter out the insanity defense, the mental retardation defense, all the other bull$hit appeal only defenses we see these murderers come up with- and return to a less civilized form of PUBLIC EXECUTION.
Tookie would be lesss of a hero and martyr if he let loose his insides at the end of a rope- same thing for Scott Peterson, et al.
I'm not totally against the death penalty. I am a Conservative, but the only issue I have is the death penalty. I guess I'm just not sure if it is the right thing or not. It makes me feel bad and bother's me, but I guess it should bother me as a Conservative. It should bother us all that we have to put down murderer's. If only these idiots would realize that you pay for your crimes. But they keep killing! I don't like putting someone to death and I wish there was another way, but as long as people choose the death penalty than so be it.
By the way, I have no love lost for Tookie Williams and I hope this can give closure to the families of the victims he killed.
