"If I am wrong and there is no God, and I am but a fool for following him, what have I lost?
"

Well, there you go. If that is your reason for belief, then it is not a true belief. I could ask you another question: There are many religions among human societies. Each has its own deity or deities. Each believes that their deity or deities are the true one.

You believe in a particular deity. What if you are wrong, and it is one of the other deities that is the true one? Your question to me is the same as my question to you.

I do not believe in any deities, so I believe in one fewer than you do, apparently. I cannot believe in supernatural entities. If I could, I probably would, like most folks do, but I cannot.

So, what if the Hindus are right, and there are dozens of deities, and you are the one who is wrong?

I missed the original question, but, I'm almost certain you didn't answer it.
