I don't get to play Santa Claus with other people's money and neither should they.

Frist filed cloture motion relating to the Patriot Act renewal (i.e., vote on the conference report). The cloture vote will be on Friday morning. Rule XXII provides for no more thatn 30 hours of debate following passage of a cloture motion.

I forgot to mention that listening to Hillary talk SHOULD keep anyone from voting for her for POTUS....

I was listening on the computer...didn't watch...so it sounded like there was a "robot" talking...no inflection, no warmth, no any emotion at all.

She is not good. Half the time it seems that she doesn't know what she is going to say next.

Good question. It'll be close, IMO. Reid said that he will not support the cloture motion, but he could have been blowing smoke. And even if cloture passes, the Rules of the Senate provide for up to 30 hours of debate. I think the Senate is trying to wind up its business by the close of business on Friday, and adding 30 hours to Friday morning is past Friday night ;-)

Not many public dissenters to renewal, other than Reid and the 6 who signed the letter in November (Craig, Murkowski, Sununu, Feingold, Durbin and Salazar).

Are you listening to Landrieu....she sounds like she is threatening to "filibuster" the whole Senate...and keep them from going home for Christmas....

LOL...I guess she still hasn't been able to deposit that 40 billion or whatever it was, in her bank account.

Landrieu makes me naseous. Many of these homes were not insured because the law did not require it, so it's the lawmakers fault.

She says the schools that took children in have been doing so for 6 months. When was that hurricane?

I believe that would be September...which by MY calculations would be about 3 months ago...

I guess she needs a calendar instead of CHARTS

No she [Landrieu] isn't [cute when she gets huffy] ...she looks like a greedy pig

She's just asking for a handout - pretty common conduct for a Senator, actually. But I wasn't talking about the substance of her requests. I meant that her face and mannerisms are funny when she's pissed off. She hasn't been getting much of what she asks for, and most of her actions are aimed at a local audience for reelection purposes.

she just announced that there will be "slow walking"...if her demands aren't met before the Christmas break?

She also yielded back unused time, Hahahahahaha. The Senate is wonderful theatre. I wish it'd be set to music.

Frist has said that the Senate may work through the weekend, and even into early next week to pass important legislation.

FRIST: Over the course of this week, we will be very busy, as I pointed out earlier this morning. We will begin voting around midday tomorrow, and in all likelihood we will be voting Thursday afternoon as well. We will be stacking votes Thursday afternoon. We will be voting on Friday and may well go into this weekend if we are unable to finish our business by late Friday. That means possibly Saturday and then maybe into next week. We have a whole slew of bills that we need to address, that we have been doing and will be doing over the next several days.

Feingold sounds quite serious about not passing the conference report version of the Patriot Act.

This is better than Harkin going off about child-targeted cereal advertising.

Most Senators are being coy about where they stand on the Patriot Act. We have the 19 who signed onto the cloture motion, and can assume that they are in favor of approval of the conference report version. I checked Reid's public pronouncements, and while he is personally against the conference report, he has yet to commit a position regarding stifling a vote by organizing opposition to cloture. If the cloture motion fails, the measure is dead, because a single Senator can object to taking the vote, and there are at least seven Senators who would object.

Right now I'm listening to Susan Collins asking for more money for heating assistance. I cannot believe the amounts of money these people feel they have the right to throw around.

Take a look at those programs that offer assistance for heating oil and the qualifications one must me to get the assistance

Also ... one of the reasons why oil/gas is so high is because of the dead beats that don't pay their bills

I know in Philly there was a HUGE increase to make up the money that PECO couldn't collect

Coburn is smart to get up now...but, unfortunately, I think he is NOT real popular even in the REP party for getting up and lecturing all about how "bad" they are.

It doesn't matter what the other Senators thinks

It matters what the VOTERS think

And the last I checked .. this country is not called the United Socialist of America
