New York

Biographical Info

Age: 28

Incident Details

Cause of Death: Gunfire

Date of Incident: Saturday, December 10, 2005

Weapon Used: Handgun; .357 caliber

Suspect Info: Apprehended

Police Officer Daniel Enchautegui was shot and killed when he interrupted a burglary in progress while off-duty.

Officer Enchautegui had just returned home after finishing a late shift when he heard breaking glass in the house next door to his. He called 911 to report a possible burglary in progress. He then grabbed his off-duty 9mm weapon, put his police shield around his neck so he would not be mistaken for a suspect by responding officers and went outside to investigate. As Officer Enchautegui approached the rear of the location he was confronted by two suspects. Officer Enchautegui drew his weapon and identified himself as a police officer by yelling "Police, Don't Move" in both English and Spanish. One of the men turned on Officer Enchautegui with a .357 caliber handgun in hand and opened fire, striking Officer Enchautegui once in the chest, piercing his heart. Despite being mortally wounded, Officer Enchautegui was able to return fire, striking one suspect twice and the other suspect four times.

Officers responding to the scene apprehended both suspects as they were attempting to flee and recovered the weapon used to kill Officer Enchautegui.

Officer Enchautegui was taken to Jacobi Medical Center where he died from his wound.

Officer Enchautegui had served with the New York City Police Department for three years, and was assigned to the 40th Precinct in the Bronx.

One of the suspects shot by this officer was actor Lilo Brancato of Sopranos and A Bronx Tale fame.

Are you serious? 141?

There have only been 470 murders in the entire city this year - are you sure this is deaths - or is this the total number of cops shot?

BTW, one of the scummers who murdered this officer is a Hollyweirdo - Lillo Brancato Jr., who starred in A Bronx Tale with Robert DeNiro and had a small recurring role in The Sopranos.

I did not say the city.

In-line duty is nationwide.

The other guy was a former Genovese family "soldier" who got himself kicked out of the Mafia for being a useless screwup.

The little Hollyweirdo took two rounds to the chest and the mob reject got shot right in his member.

Good shooting, officer. Most of the time you hear about cops wildly missing their targets - he got off six rounds and each of them hit a perp.

rest in peace, Officer Enchautegui. You were a brave man and you will be missed.

The cop was 8 for 8 on his targets. 6 for 6 for the shooter and 2 for 2 for the saprono goon. Too bad they survived and our tax dollars have to costs of scum like this.

Killing a good cop.

He is going to end up like Andy Dufrane from Shawshank.
