Palestinians exported the first load of crops on Sunday grown in Gaza greenhouses left behind by evacuated settlers, boosting hopes that Israel's withdrawal from the Strip could jump-start Gaza's ailing economy.
Officials from the Palestine Economic Development Company (PEDC), which is running the greenhouses, said 2.5 tons of peppers left Gaza through the Karni crossing for sale in Israeli markets.
The shipment went ahead despite Israeli threats - made after a suicide bombing in Netanya last week in which five Israelis were killed - to limit trade across the Gaza border unless the Palestinian Authority cracks down on militants.

There are lots of things one can do in life besides growing stuff in greenhouses. Although I can't think of any examples at the moment.

Greenhouses are where all that nastly greenhouse gas comes from. Besides they can be used to grow dope and if you live in one you have to stop throwing stones. It's life changing.

They are parasites wherever they go. All take.
How sad, a hundred million dollar crop a year down to a peck of pickled peppers. I highly doubt the peppers came from the greenhouses. But they had to produce a crop from them for an excuse to try and get shipping paths into Israel. Besides Condi has been using this crop as an excuse to open shipping wide without inspections into Israel.
This is less than the crop from one greehouse out of over a thousan of them...
Gaza accounted for about $130 million of agricultural exports. At $1 per pound, which might be generous, we're talking $5,000.
Crops were left when Israel left, though much was destroyed.
