Plenipotentiary of Ossetian President: Georgia prepares armed invasion into South Ossetia
REGNUM ^ | December 12, 2005

Georgia prepares to war with South Ossetia, stated plenipotentiary of Ossetian President in Moscow Dmitri Medoyev. “We have information that Georgia prepares an armed invasion in South Ossetia”, he noted.

According to Medoyev, apart from preparations for invasion, Georgia conducts a number of provocations, among then “the threats of assassination to the South Ossetian government, diversions and acts of terrorism, abduction of South Ossetian citizens.” Medoyev thinks that it clearly represents that terrorism became a state policy in Georgia, and now represents danger not only to South Ossetia, but to whole Caucasus. “Without radical measures by the international community, the Georgian policy may lead to a catastrophe,” noted Medoyev.

Speaking about position of the South Ossetian side in this question, the plenipotentiary noted that “the South Ossetian government completely controls the situation in the republic, president acts calmly and coolly. Currently, we abstain from adequate measures towards Georgia which can harm already tough situation in the Region. We insist that Georgia stop the provocations, saber rattling and militarization. We also insist on release of the citizens of South Ossetia from Georgian prisons, including those who have been abducted recently,” said Medoyev

Seems to me that Georgia is responding to years of Ossetian troublemaking and Russian interference.

Yeah, nothing like a double standard. The Croats, Slovanians wanted to leave, no problems, the Serbs...extermination. Georgia is independent, but they'll be damned if anyone else is. After all, just because they failed to exterminate the Ossessians and Abhaz in the early 1990s is no reason they can't do it ten years later.

The Ossetians started the earlier trouble, at the instigation of Russia.

Russia wants to break up the Christian nation of Georgia the same way Yugoslavia was broken up.

One of my sons is living in Tbilisi at the moment, after coming home to make a little more money over the summer. It's a beautiful and very civilized country.

Too many kidnappings. I don't know who did them, but I don't blame the Georgians for being upset.

Some people seem to want the Georgians to meet the same fate as the Serbs.

GEORGIA PROMOTES SOUTH OSSETIA PEACE PLAN

• Ensure language rights and the preservation of cultural heritage.
• Provide compensation for damages suffered during the 1990-1992 conflict with Georgia.
• Create a truth commission to investigate alleged crimes against civilians.
• Establish "a simplified border regime" for South Ossetians residing along the border with Russia.
• Guarantee South Ossetian representation in the central Georgian government.

Ok now tell me how this is different from Russia wanting to keep Chechnya.

I think Georgia wants to be Georgia as they were, again.

Being madly in love with Georgia and her people, I can still understand the Ossetians preferring Russia as their "momma" country. Consistent electricity is a nice thing in life, after all.

I guess if they want to be free, they should, perhaps, or be tied to Russia instead. But there have been some really nasty kidnappings along that border recently, one a child who was returned, and then some adults who were killed and returned in pieces, as I recall.

I can't figure the Ossetians to do something like that, so I think chechens are along the border, perhaps.
Recently it seems like I read that family members of the killed hostages actually blocked the border themselves.

Beautiful pictures. I have no way to post my son's pictures here, or I'd link a few.

Easy, Russia didn't try to exterminate the Chechens or Russofy them, though maybe they should have christianized them.

Some people seem to want the Georgians to meet the same fate as the Serbs.

I'd rather say that's your attitude towards the Abhaz and the Ossessians. I'm sure if Georgia gets into NATO you'll be all jumpy to start carpet bombing Suhumi, if you can find it on a map.

No you want "interpendence" under UN auspices for separatists just like Kosovar and Chechen separatists. You want to dismember and Balkanize Christian Georgia the way Kosovo was torn apart and the way Russia will be torn apart in the future. You advance this agenda when you support separatists in Georgia. You really think you can spread th forces of Balkanization in the Caucasus without it spreading to Russia? This is why the Chechen terrorists support the Abkhazians.

Ok now tell me how this is different from Russia wanting to keep Chechnya.

Firstly, Georgia offer them more rights than any Russian republic actually has. Secondary these lands are historically Georgian with significant Georgian minority (something like Kosovo and Serbia) and Chechnya never was ethnically Russian.
