WASHINGTON -- Rudy Giuliani and John McCain are the top-polling Republican rivals for the White House in 2008, but the two dinner buddies avoid talking about that topic when sharing tortellini and bresaola at Giuliani's favorite Manhattan bistros.
Their latest get-together took place on Nov. 1 at Elio's, an Upper East Side eatery known for its $30 veal chops. They shared a table with McCain confidante Mark Salter, Giuliani's wife Judith and his aide-de-camp Tony Carbonetti. McCain and Giuliani reportedly chatted about the food, sports and Iraq -- everything but 2008.
The same can't be said for the Arizona senator's operatives, who are girding for a clash between the two titans even though Giuliani could be a year away from making a decision. Some even predict the Straight Talk Express will roll over America's Mayor if it comes down to McCain vs. Giuliani.
"I think Rudy would make an attractive secretary of state or secretary of defense in a McCain administration," Marshall Wittmann, a former McCain aide who is still close to the senator.
"In my humble opinion, Rudy wouldn't get out of the gate," said longtime McCain strategist John Dennehy, who helped engineer the Arizona senator's victorious 2000 primary in New Hampshire.

Help me out here, I am drawing a blank on House RINOs ...
It is time to mount the offensive and not let the left pick and choose what or who we defend ourselves against. You are all too willing to fight from a position of weakness and self-defeat, to defend and not attack.
The Left will not define me or limit the parameters of my thinking. This is exactly what they want and I am not playing their game.
I want to wage a war, not a retreat... which is exactly the thinking behind saying Giuliani is the only one that can beat Hitlery... in your mind you have already conceded defeat...
We have already had a declaration of war from the Left...
It's a war Larry, a war... (James snake-head Carville on CNN's Larry King Live)
Nuclear Option Ping
Slapping the donkey...
If you want to be added or removed from this list, please notify me...
Originally, the Nuclear Option Ping List started out as a practical joke. With all the vitriolic response I received from certain un-named individuals, I figured it would be a great idea to do it for real...
I have observed here on Free Republic, a never ending flaming of religious folks and conservatives by people who promote things such as drug abuse, homosexuality, the ritual murder of abortion and other garbage.
Not being an orthodox or ecumenical atheist, it has really stretched my patience. I do not think policemen are jack-booted thugs, nor do I look at people who want to protect their families from filthy scum as brownshirts.
The purpose of this is to alert people to the cultural Marxism run amok... Drugs, sex perverts, pornography (in film and in music), marijuana, liquor, bashing the religious people, destroying social institutions (like marriage and the Boy Scouts), etc., etc.,... ad nausea...
The druggies like the sex perverts can only perpetuate an ever increasing market for their filth by molesting the minds and bodies of the young ones... this is the only way they get new Demo-rat voters... CHEMICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE!
It is no coincidence Islamic pagans hate Israel, Jews, Christians and Western Civilization. The entire basis of Western Civilization is Mosaic Law, something both the Neo-Pagan Left and the pagan Islamic thugs cannot abide and wish to destroy.
The very idea that human beings have individual rights not subject to the whims of a monarch, but subject to the laws of Yahweh, is directly from Moses.
Historically, this is proven over and over again with the succsessive conflicts between the forces of paganism and the Judaic culture. It is being played out here and all over the world today...
Observing this as an atheist, I prefer the paradigm of a Judaic culture to the chaotic death cult of New Age neo-pagan absurdity.

You have to ask why he didn't to support that thought...
How is he going to do that if the country rots from within?
You are truly deluded in thinking Hitlery is the be all, end all of presidential politics.

So what you're saying is that you'll vote for McCain or Giuliani if they get the GOP nomination. You might be a republican but you're no Conservative.
You and me both. Can we get "None of the Above" on the ballot? As a Republican, the President of a conservative Republican Club, and a Republican Precinct Committeeman, I will not lift a finger for Guiliani or McCain in the primary or the general election. And I'm not the only one. Three Republican committees (the official party organization) in Arizona have passed resolutions stating as much when it comes to McCain. This includes the Maricopa County Republican Party, the largest Republican committee in the state of Arizona which represents the largest population of Republicans. Someone's got to stand up and say, "Hell No!" and hopefully the RNC gets the message. I don't care if the Democrats run Hillary or Josef Stalin's reanimated corpse. I will NOT be forced to vote for McCain or Guiliani just because the opposing candidate is evil. I've drawn the line. The last five presidential elections have all forced me to vote for the lesser of two evils. I'm not going to do it anymore, especially not for the likes of RINOs like McCain and Guiliani. No way.
Well, there's openly gay RINO Rep. Jim Kolbe who is going to have a lot of free time because he's chosen not to run again and to retire from the House.
He had just been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
He was never in the race for senator against Hillary.
It was media driven - he never actually declared he was running and pulled out.
It was assumed he would run, then he got prostate cancer.
Gun Issues
2004 Senator McCain supported the interests of the National Rifle Association 50 percent during their legislative career up until 2004.
2003-2004 Senator McCain supported the interests of the Gun Owners of America 0 percent in 2003-2004.
2003 Senator McCain supported the interests of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence 14 percent from 1988-2003 (Senate) or 1991-2003 (House).
2003 Based on the results of a questionnaire the Gun Owners of America assigned Senator McCain a grade of 40 (with grades ranging from a high of A+ to a low of F-).
2002 On the votes that the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence considered to be the most important as of 2002, Senator McCain voted their preferred position 14 percent of the time. These scores are cumulative for each representative's time in their current office. The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence considered votes from 1988-2002 in the House and 1991-2002 in the Senate when determining these scores.

1999-2000 Senator McCain supported the interests of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence 0 percent in 1999-2000.
1999-2000 Based on the results of a questionnaire the Gun Owners of America assigned Senator McCain a grade of C- (with grades ranging from a high of A+ to a low of F-).
Better than Giuliani and almost any Democrat on this issue, but still not good.
Yeah, but it will be downhill for the GOP if either one wins.
(I kinda like Giuliani as a NY Senator but I'm still ticked off at him for wimping out in his race against Hillary. There was absolutely no reason for him to drop out. As I recall, that 'prostate thing' magically cleared up two months after the race was over.)
I'm sure Pat Buchanan has good 'conservative' ratings too.
But that doesn't necessarily make him or anyone a reliable, trustworthy, sane candidate for the GOP.
So that rules out a run for that same contest again this time?
If he won that New York senate seat this time, we could have an instant replay - - guaranteeing the win against her, like the RINOs say, couldn't we?
New York electoral votes are the key here?
I know this much -- IF the GOP chooses a "pro-choice" candidate, they're dead.
In retrospect, Dubya Bush should have replaced Cheney as VP if only to have given the Republicans a leg up for 2008 instead of having to start from scratch.
This party did NOT think ahead.
I think he willingly helps her...
"Nobody in the GOP believes that! Boy, are they in for a surprise."
Condi's "pro-choice" position will hurt her mortally within the GOP's campaign organization.
McCain or Guiliani??
Ain't happenning. The real base won't turn out -- if those are the kind of "surprises" the GOP wants.
I don;t even think Hilly will get the dem nomination, and have said so on FR many times.
I think the dems best bet is for the nominee to be a popular current or former dem governor from a Red State.
